WXForum.net now on SMF 2.0.7
« on: January 29, 2014, 04:07:36 PM »
It took less time than allotted, but we're up and running again :)

Tapatalk users will likely have to logout/login again as the Tapatalk mod was upgraded for SMF2

I'm still working on some add-on tweaks, but the basic mods we'd used (that were SMF2 compatible) have been reinstalled.

A bit of details about the conversion:
1) Database backup took 91 seconds and is 280MB in text-file dump format.
2) FTP of the new software took 12 minutes elapsed.
3) Running the upgrading script took 9:11 and converted all the old DB formats to SMF2
4) uploading and installing mods took about 25 minutes.

Forum re-activated at 1300 Pacific time (one hour ahead of schedule).

Best regards,
Ken

Yes, looks like we are back up again from a read-only perspective after a very short upgrade (less than an hour of downtime  =D>)

However, two things:
  • I can't seem to post anything. I get error message when I hit POST. - SCRATCH THIS ONE. I POSTED OKAY...
  • I noticed that my signature image is not working as it used to. I see a broken image symbol. Am wondering if the BB code is not allowing images in the new forum setup.

This brings up a thought to Ken - Should We find problems with the new SMF setups, where do you want us to post our findings?

Posting issues with the forum conversion in this thread is just fine.. I'll have them all in one place (hopefully).

Re (1) above .. glad that got sorted out :)
Re (2) above, the sig image should show correctly - I see other signatures (including my own) with banners.
The issue is your banner script is showing
Code: [Select]
Warning: imagecreatefromgif(): Filename cannot be empty in /homepages/14/d239618093/htdocs/wxgraphic.php on line 470

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /homepages/14/d239618093/htdocs/wxgraphic.php:470) in /homepages/14/d239618093/htdocs/wxgraphic.php on line 553
error messages, so the image is 'broken'.  Maybe a missing background image file?

Ken

Wow, don't know what could be wrong. I haven't touched that code for years now. It was good this morning just before you shut the forum down but something has certainly changed since then. I rebooted my software but that hasn't seemed to have helped. Will dig deeper. Murphy must be at work once again...

I like the new look too. I am curious, what is that new box just below the log-in information?
It has some kind of icon at the beginning.

I've enabled OpenID as an authorization scheme for the forum -- I suspect that it is used for that.
The box disappears after you log in to the forum.

Hmmm... your suspicion is correct .. it is the default theme for SMF2.  Call me lazy.. it was easier to upgrade that way :)

I've managed to correct a few behind-the-scenes things that were causing error log entries (httpBL, Tapatalk) so it seems to be running fine.  Still having to feel my way around the reorganized Admin functions to get stuff configured, and I will be adding the rotating news + forum stats to the top of the page.

Ken

It was a couple of years back I think so I don't remember much but I think there are a couple of hidden tricks.

If you can, try to make the news fader user-selectable.  I hate things moving and wiggling on web pages.

Sorry, but the mod (cloned) was not user selectable for enable/disable.  I tried to make it unobtrusive (it's no longer bold but does rotate the current news items.

I also added in the overall stats above it so it resembles the old display but uses the theme language words for the boilerplate items.

Eh, I like the old one better.
Yeah, it is fairly bland compared to the older one.  I did have to do the update to the new software and I didn't see an option for a template that had the old look/feel.  Sorry!

Ken

I found a way to vanquish it.  :-)

Template's fine.  I'm not into fancy.

Previously, there was a way to say "do not show me this board".  The selections that I had made to customize what I see, seem to have vanished from my profile.

OK, stuff happens, but how do I re-do that customization?  I think I looked through everything in Profile (but I probably missed it), and I tried going through "Help" with no success.

Thanks.
