Weather station for field lidar Data acquisition
« on: April 27, 2011, 10:51:22 AM »
All,

Looks like you have a great forum community here. I thought I would jump on and ask you if you know of a portable weather station that will meet my needs. I work in airborne lidar data acquisition for a university and am currently involved in a project where weather/cloud ceiling is an issue. Without good weather data - including cloud ceiling we are often grounded. Are you aware of a portable weather station that can be taken into the field, and will provide weather data -- including cloud ceiling that will help us make accurate decisions with out pilots on whether we can get off the ground?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Not sure how portable this one is: http://www.vaisala.com/en/maritime/products/ceilometer/Pages/default.aspx  Vaisla stations are well used in university/research areas.  Expensive.

Our company can supply the weather station.

Thanks

Olive

Your weather stations provide cloud ceiling data?

Which station model would that be?

I think it's not a matter of selling the product. It's dealing with a competition that makes almost the exact same product. Not shure if you've heard of Zephyre or Ambient Weather, but I found some of your models in the link you provided to be the same as products here in the US. I mean, I'm not saying, "NO" But when you have competition making the same product, it can be shavy buisness. However I did see you offer the full WX station consoles in multipule colors. The colored displays on several other models. That maybe where your success lies. Providing different looks and colors for those of different personalities. I can try to find some who would be intrested in selling, providing they're not dealers of Zephyre.
I live in an apartment and for the moment am not a home weather watcher.

I am a storm chaser.
