114" of Rain ....
« on: August 10, 2009, 01:49:32 PM »
.... over Taiwan from Morokot.  That's 9 1/2 FEET of rain!

TWC is showing a video of a tall hotel (15 stories or so) collapsing because the beach eroded out from underneath it as a result of the storm.

Is that an official total or an estimate?
I'm sure that blows away any previous continuous rainfall amount, if it's accurate.

I seen a clip of that building falling today on TWC. Amazing, held together until it hit the water. And even then seemed that most of the building stayed together.

Thanks,

In metric it's 2,896m, and that's a lot of rain.

CNN says it was a 6 story bldg.  I didn't bother to count when I first saw it.  They didn't mention a rainfall total but they did say there are large landslides.

 What's happening in Taiwan is real...those unbelievable rainfall amount occurred in the mountains there, and nearer sea level is was twenty inches, as I recall.  That's brutal, anywhere.
No wonder buildings are collapsing near rivers, streams and estuaries.
So sad for those folks!
You know, a lot of computer memory is manufactured in Taiwan.
Watch the prices climb, folks!  :-(

"Floodwater from the typhoon caused severe damage to the Hotel Chin Shuai in Chihpen ..."  on its side, floating away is a little more than severe damage....
