Hi All,

The high surf was spectacular.

Now there is a lava flow that is threatening a subdivision on the Big Island where the hurricane hit.  It is about 3/4 of a mile away and it is predicted to enter in a few days.

Hi All,

Looks like we are in it again.  Soon to be Hurricane Ana will be arriving this weekend.

Looks like a triple punch situation.  The Big Island is still cleaning up after the last one, the lava is still treating a town called Pahoa and now the impending storm heading their way.

Will update more later.

Curiosity runs rampant ......

Could the heavy rains of Ana cool the lava enough to slow or redirect it?

The residences hope that would be true but most of the movement is under ground in tunnels and pops up every now and then.  Plus it is all down hill.

Hi All,

Well, l survived Hurricane Ana without any issues.  It was really nothing at my location.  Hardly any winds with light rains.  Almost a non-event for my place, but not so with the other islands.  Flooding on the Big Island but that did not slow down the lava flow to the village of Pahoa.

Glad you didn't get hit this time Stan. As for the lava flows, I doubt that any amount of rain would impact the flows. Just look at some of the underwater videos of lava flows and you'll see it just keeps coming out and turning the water around it instantly to steam.

Hi All,

It is amazing with this storm.  It left the islands as a tropical storm and it regained strength and now it is a hurricane again and headed toward Canada.

On another front, the lava flow on the Big Island is nearing the village of Pahoa and has gained speed.  Check out these photos http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/multimedia/.

Hi All,

It seems that the lava flow toward Pahoa on the Big Island will probably hit in the area of the homes in the path sometime tonight (10-27-2014) or tomorrow morning. Hoping for the best for those that might be in the path.

More later to progress.

Sad situation.  For those that are interested, Kilauea daily updates and status reports can be found here.

Hi All,

Thanks Harry for the link so others may have more info on the lava flow.

The folks in Pahoa on the Big Island has started to move out of the area.  Even the schools will be closed for the rest of the week over there and the students will be disbursed to neighboring schools next week. School staffs are moving equipment to safer places during the rest of this week.

Only a few yard to the nearest home during last night.
