I see your sensor is reading that it is above 32 in you town...

Glad to see that youre out of the deep freeze Chris

We are pretty cold...Temps around 20, but we have had winds around 10-15 which makes the wind chill very cold.

Nothing last nite/this morning. Looks like NWS pulled the precip chances for the weekend. All I show now is Partly Cloudy, Windy, Partly Sunny... that type of stuff.

Hope you get some snow soon!

We got another 3 inches last night...I wish i would have come 24 hours earlier for I would have been out of school

It is staying well below normal again here.... We went almost a month with consecutively below normal highs, and I see us extending another long streak of one of those.. Today was the 4th day

I've got a long way to go before I get a PWS set up on a computer. I do have an experimental weather blog though, but I don't think I can do this by myself…it's a bit of work keeping up a blog that has multiple sections! The Weather Blogs. It does tie in with my own weather forum.

Bottomed out at 11.7*F at 6:22 AM this morning. Wind chills were around 8*F.

Chilly? No. Cold? No. Frigid? That's more like it.

I ended up 18.7 low and 11.3 W/C.

Lots of "Low Record"s this last month and being the WU quoted record for today is 24.8 (1997) and I'm at 25.7, I guess I;ll see another one in a little bit. Slow winds tho' 6MPH gust so far.

That extra wrap on the swamp cooler is paying off!

I wondered how you all took care of those when temps dipped that low. You cover them. Do you also have to drain them on occasion?

Fill 'em up late spring, run 'em all summer, drain 'em and close 'em early fall. Most, if not all houses with evap coolers have a removable piece of metal (a damper, made of sheetmetal) that goes between the fan and the main duct work of the house. Heating of the house in the winter comes from a gas (or otherwise) furnace that sits somewhat directly under the roof unit…houses with evap coolers have a large central duct, with smaller duct work leading out to various vents in the house. Furnaces have a damper above them.

I LOVE this government weather tool. http://www.weather.gov/forecasts/graphical/sectors/conus.php

Probably by the end of this week we'll heat up…doesn't look like a whole lot in the way of precip is heading this way.

What Chris said.

In my situation, the swamper is close to over the kitchen and a water tap on the cold sink-side runs to the roof to provide the feed. In winter when we "close" the unit, the line gets disconnected and drained (I also plug the roof end) and the water removed from the bottom pan in the swamp cooler.

My heater is on the other end of the main duct and either unit gets a "damper" slid into their respective jack-end of the duct. I cover either damper joint with metal tape to seal them.

Some people do nothing more than that. Others (most) wrap a canvas cover over the unit. 3 winters back, I covered the inlet grill with Reflectix under the cover and had great results - less wind getting in, less heat loss.

Last year, I did that and then wrapped the whole unit in Reflectix before I put the canvas cover on it. Really good results. The heater would cycle a whole lot less often. This has been a cold winter so far and it's paying off.

That thing is like one big heat-sink on the roof in the cold, windy winter. Next year, I'm going wrap the 6" of exposed roof-jack (where the damper is) with some hot water tank blanket. Propane ain't getting any cheaper!

We have almost 10 inches of snow on the ground right now... I have been sledding 3 days since Sunday and I plan to do more today.... Sledding is so much fun and I had never done it before until Sunday... Also will make a snowman maybe and have an apocalyptic snowball fight

Well if there's one enjoyable thing about New Mexico right now..it's sunny and mild.

This spring…

NWS is predicting it will be a dry and windy spring…with above normal temperatures. As for much of the eastern part of the state (flat high plains), there's not a whole lot to talk about…we might see severe weather, and we might not…last year the high plains saw very little severe weather.

So close...

The WU reported low for today is 19.4 in 1997. I went down to 19.4 at 7:30A. 53 right now, blue skies, no wind and the "sun room" is 81. Love that free heat!

Glad to hear you've found the joys of sledding, farmtalk! When I was a kid, we would use old metal garbage can covers (besides sleds) to go down whatever hills we could find. "Skitching" was another  fun thing to do.
