I ended up 18.7 low and 11.3 W/C.
Lots of "Low Record"s this last month and being the WU quoted record for today is 24.8 (1997) and I'm at 25.7, I guess I;ll see another one in a little bit. Slow winds tho' 6MPH gust so far.
That extra wrap on the swamp cooler is paying off!
I wondered how you all took care of those when temps dipped that low. You cover them. Do you also have to drain them on occasion?
What Chris said.
In my situation, the swamper is close to over the kitchen and a water tap on the cold sink-side runs to the roof to provide the feed. In winter when we "close" the unit, the line gets disconnected and drained (I also plug the roof end) and the water removed from the bottom pan in the swamp cooler.
My heater is on the other end of the main duct and either unit gets a "damper" slid into their respective jack-end of the duct. I cover either damper joint with metal tape to seal them.
Some people do nothing more than that. Others (most) wrap a canvas cover over the unit. 3 winters back, I covered the inlet grill with Reflectix under the cover and had great results - less wind getting in, less heat loss.
Last year, I did that and then wrapped the whole unit in Reflectix before I put the canvas cover on it. Really good results. The heater would cycle a whole lot less often. This has been a cold winter so far and it's paying off.
That thing is like one big heat-sink on the roof in the cold, windy winter. Next year, I'm going wrap the 6" of exposed roof-jack (where the damper is) with some hot water tank blanket. Propane ain't getting any cheaper!
