Another 100+ plus day - 101.1

Your comment about hitting the century mark got me thinking.  I've been considering arranging my data so that I can track the number of days over 100 deg, as a kind of "Extreme Summer Index". So I finally did it last night.  It was pretty revealing.  For my site in Sedona, AZ, we've had 13 days over 100 deg this summer.  But the average for this date, based on several years of data, is 19 days over 100.  So we've been cooler than average here, at least by that measure, so far this summer....that kind of fits my overall impression.

Some other numbers that caught my eye are:
Average number of days over 100 deg for the entire summer:  23
Earliest occurrence of a day over 100: June 5th
Latest occurence of a day over 100: August 30th
Obviously these are all very site-specific, but it gives me another way of looking at the data, which is what I live for.

That type of data is enjoyable to me as well.

Looking at mine, my earliest 100+ day is May 20th 2008. 2008 was also the only August (2007-current) without any 100+ days with the high being 95.5 on the 1st giving that month an average of 76.5. Average August is 80.5. 2008's last 100+ day was early - June 19th.

August 21st 2007 was the latest for 100+ - 102.1 which tied that year's high on June 26th. I keep think I'll pass that number this year but the clouds keep it a chilly 101 or so.

As far as days of 100+ temps and their highs:
2007 - 6 - 102.1
2008 - 9 - 104.4
2009 - 5 - 103.6
2010 - 18 - 108.2
2011 - 18 (98.8 today's high so far) - 108.1

Right now it's sunny and I hear some rain drops on the skylite...

Ah yes. A few drops on the skylites...

25-30MPH winds, 1.77" rain rate and 0.14" in the bucket and still a slight drizzle.

It was one of those events where everyone has nice white clouds and blue skies. Except over your house where it was dark grey, thundering and raining hard.

Just hope it isn't omen-tied to today's DOW...

No rain this afternoon like yesterday, though from 12-2 today we had another power outage, though it is unknown what caused it.

There was a nice finish to it all. It was a lot better before I ran back inside for the camera.

My very thoughts when I saw it!

I keep toying with 100 - 99.7 so far and the clouds are greying up a bit. Yesterday, I learned how to break open the rain clouds: start setting up to vacuum the pool and imagine jumping in when I'm done. It works just like washing the car!

100.9 today, clam winds, 21% HUM & 51 Dew... not too bad considering 90 is 'AVG' (per WU). My station's avg high for today 2007-2010 is 93.

we're dry here too in AZ.  DP's below 40 deg.  but the monsoon always comes in episodes.   I'm still shooting for 6" this season.  we'll see.

Hottest AUG 8th for my station passing 2009's 94.9 easily: 102.9. Also made for a new August high beating 2007's 102.1 on the 21st and gave me 20 100+ days for 2011.

A couple of boomies went by but did nothing but block the sun for a bit.

There's a High sitting over me that's pulling moisture to my south and west and sucking more dry across the north and east of me.

The drier weather is hell and heaven for things around here.

Good:

Swamp cooler functions much better
Comfortable outside (sort of, the dry hot air not so much)
Doors in the house aren't sticking

Bad:

Risk for fire (though the potential fire spots have been drenched up here)
Singing voice slightly affected (dry throat = no bueno for singing)

Good news is it should all come back by the weekend.

Strain the dry throat for a nice, raspy sound and sing the blues...  :-P I can hear it now:
"You got to move... you got to move. You got to move, child, you got to move..."

Dew & HUM make for an uncomfortable 102.4 today. Swamper hasn't taken a break for a while over the last few days until later in the evenings. Might have to hit the roof and check it - doesn't feel like it used to. Might be time to replace that 8" pad.

Rainy here & there and I actually caught a few drops on my windshield earlier but no real accumulation anywhere local.

Our swamper is temperamental. Either the spider tubes will get clogged (and we've tried to alleviate this problem only to find the fix is a bigger issue than the clogged tubes  #-o ) or the pump will seize (it came with the unit, so we don't expect it to last much longer this season).

Hit a high of 94 yesterday. Saw some rain but nothing that amounts to much. Today there is more rain, slightly cooler.

Interesting afternoon...

A strong storm was brewing NE of White Sands. Nice, dark, evil looking clouds. Then it started swelling up in my direction. A big wall of grey moving west toward me and thru the middle of it a big burst of brown rolled out on top of 30MPH winds. Very strange look to it all and of course, it rolled down my block when I was outside opening the driveway gate. Had to sit in the car a few minutes to wait it out.

Eventually, the rain followed with strong lightning overhead. 0.16" so far - pushes me over an inch for the year and it's still lightly falling right now. Only need 0.02" to match my rainiest day for the year.

Power dropped a couple of times for a split second.

Looks like they received an inch a few miles south of me.

EDIT: Final total at midnite - 0.26"  |  1.12" YTD across 14 days

Being surrounded by mountains, they saw flooding rains, we saw zilch. This weekend is going to be a "soaker" though according to the forecasts. It's about time. I love the way storms flash in the sunset...and after the sunset. And when the moon lights up the collapsing tops.  \:D/

2:30PM - 80% HUM, 62 Dew, and 68 degrees! 87 an hour ago.

Not to mention the 30MPH winds that blew in with the rain. They've settled and the rain continues to fall. 0.13"  and a nice, steady drizzle.

The giant swarming carpenter ants are going to have a field day after this one. They started the other day and they were desperately busy looking to plant everywhere. The last couple of years of sporadic rains gave me much insight to their approach and I hit them hard while they were still "breaking ground" the last 2 days. Hopefully, I slowed them down a little and made a dent in their population.

EDIT: 0.14" total

Today? Zilch.

While cruising around WalMart and grabbing a few of the school-days sales, it sounding like a bowling league upstairs. Torrential rain, thunder and wild lightning. Power dropped for a second or two and the registers were knocked off line for a bit.

Naturally, when I got home I found I only had 0.16" with a moderate rain rate.

Totaled at only 0.20" but that's two days in a row of more than 0.10" of rain!  =D>
