Good Friday quake
« on: March 28, 2013, 11:22:17 PM »
anniversary is today March 27 1964.  On that date the largest earthquake in North America history happen. The earth tore from Yatutak to Kodiak. One of the largest tears in history. Most people tht where killed was not form the quake itself but from the tsunamis as an results of the quake.

The Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Ak made an animation showing the directions, time period and force of the tsunami. Interesting to watch.

The facts about "over 10,000 aftershocks" are incredible.

Earth did some moving that day 44 feet up on Middleton Island and areas in the Anchorage bowl dropped 22 feet.
Buildings on 4 th ave no longer had ground floor. I was below ground and buildings where entered thru the 2nd story. Eathquake park as called now had slabs of earth thown around like ice floes stranded on break up. The village of Portage was abandon due to salt water at high tide flooding building. The houses are still there and you can go into them and see the build up of sediment in them. Dead trees all over due to salt killing them. City of Valdez was moved and rebuilt in an new location. The new city is 4 miles from where the old city was. There you can find  railcars 2 miles away from where they were when the water came in and crried them to where they rest today.

Yep the earth move and left no forwarding address.
