Title: A Trubute to the Victims of Moore Tornado

3 years ago today 25 people were killed in the F5 tornado that hit Moore, Ok. This why I think weather chasers and spotters are important. They get scientific data to learn to predict storms better. My dad says that 20 years ago the death number would have been much higher.

Ten of those victims were children, seven of them were in the Plaza Towers Elementary School.

More than 300 people were injured in the storm.

What a tragic day with so many young lives taken. I remember Miranda Lambert breaking down on stage during a tribute song she was doing.

We live about 12 miles SSE of the tornado path where it crossed I-35. Truly a scary event. Needless to say we were glued to one of the local TV stations watching continuous coverage. My oldest step-son was at work about a 1/2 mile south of the path where it crossed I-35. Luckily for him and his co-workers they have an underground tunnel in their plant they could take shelter in.

The Norman Regional Hospital - Moore just reopened last week after being rebuilt. Driving through that area on I-35 its hard now to see where the storm crossed. Neighborhoods to the west and east are slowly being rebuilt.

I watched live from the helo that was filming as they were calling out structures that were about to be hit. I was mortified, especially when they said the two schools were next. It was the first time I witnessed live tornado coverage of what I knew was going to be a deadly event. That day screwed me up in the head a bit as I avoided severe WX coverage for quite a while, which is where I normally thrive.

Tragic day! 

Sympathies to all the victim's families and also to you CW2274 for seeing something that devastating live. 

I can certainly understand how that might negatively affect your appreciation of severe weather.

However, it's a fitting reminder of the need for accurate, timely weather information and of why being an owner of a PWS may actually help in that information gathering.
