That's not a sinkhole that's a black hole!
Something looks a little fishy with that pic.

It does look like something from Fringe (or Xfiles for those that have not seen the 2010's version)

Pic was released from president's office in Guatemala, so i'm thinking its probably real.  There is a ground level pic if you click on cnn story link, and goto page 2.

Here's another (high res, aka big MB's)

My first thought was that it had to be Photoshopped.  But after looking up pictures of previous sinkholes in the area, that really is what they look like.  Wild!

yes, it is strange how it suddenly goes dark like that at the bottom....there must be alot of water running underground to create a hole that big!

It's not their first one neither.  Back in 2007 was another monster hole:

I'd be getting real nervous if I were living there.

Same here. I do believe it would be time to move (horizontally).

Nope.  Oil.  The hole was caused by the void created by the oil spewing into the gulf.

The only sink holes I have seen in Florida are V shaped not the huge shafts that occur down there.
After doing some reading up on these things it looks like what happened in Guatemala is what the figure below shows on the right. Most of the lakes in Florida are caused by the sink holes on the left of the figure.
