Many have raised this one before but doesn't hurt to bring this issue up again. Applies to the current design solid state magnetic type 7911 & 6410. Now apart from the single gun metal screw (single point of failure) into the moulding of the upper component that holds the whole thing together a mixture of very fine reddish powder that probably originates from the inside bearing(?) and water ingress binds up the inside circlip, hence no wind speed then no direction.
The bottom half can be pulled off to clean this crap out but obviously the design allows in water/moisture which supposedly is meant to drain out the slots in the wind speed cartridge but this is just a buggy design being an anemometer that has to be out in the weather/rain/moisture yet fails for that very reason after 12-18 months.
The older original designs ran for literally years in the same environment but not these new designs. The old design were also held together a little better with multiple stainless grub screws.

My new one's been up and running fine for 3+ years.

Check out the revised version of the wind speed cartridge with the new seal.

I just replaced a unit which started binding up. It was at least 3 years in service at the windy location outside of town but was installed at different location less windy for about 2 years. (5 years total before failure)

I have seen a replacement wind speed cartridge but no mention of a new seal design. I have seen a part# around of 7345.953, is this the one? Unable to find this under Davis replacements and haven't see this one on the most recent price list.

It's there on PR57, but - as usual - part number unchanged! You need to make sure that you get the updated version - we've only seen these in the past few months.
NB Only applies to the current 6410 version. Don't know about 7911 - hadn't realised anyone was still buying these - we always use 6410 as a 7911 replacement.

They are just up the road in Gainseville. Told Ryan I would like to stop by and drool, er, I mean look at what he as. Turns out he works a 9-5 and this business is run out of storage container.

Received my cartridge this week. Very easy to change. 1 phillips screw and 1 tiny allen screw.
The only issue is changing it in the first place. It's scary up that high. About 30ft high and about 10ft above the roof line. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] One of these days I going to have to hire some youngster climb up there.

Wow, now that's a TV antenna.
