Am I not operating it correctly, or is the Southeast the only area available at this time?

You have to change the URL to reflect the LAT/LON for the location you want to see.

i.e.,

His URL was as follows:

Just edit the LAT= and LON= portion to wherever you want to look.

Or, just go to your local forecast page and it will use the closest radar.
Go to the wundermap section and the beta link is on the right.
