He was lucky there weren't any power lines to contend with. I don't think he could have even seen them in the smoke.

Having to do that in a 57 year old 180 would not be my choice if I had to do it that's for sure. I've flown in a 180 and 182RG a few times. Maybe a combination of lucky and good skills.

Dan the Dalton is PowerLine free. After you leave Liven good there nothing till u on get to Deadhorse. Considering the terrain along the section he did excellent job. 

Choice was either set down on road or pile up on hillside or set down on tundra patch. Not like there an airfield right handy up here.
