Mapbox replacing Google Maps in WU

Recently I noticed Mapbox maps replacing Google Maps on the station forecast page, and this morning I saw Mapbox on the PWS station page. Google is still providing the Wundermap map images. Does anyone know what's behind these changes?

On Android, Arbormoon out of Michigan rebuilt the WU app.  I suspect using a combination of their own and WU's tech.  I doubt they will rewrite it (although I think they already use OSM)
