WS2810U-IT with Firmware 222
« on: January 27, 2013, 12:06:03 AM »
I am a noobie to weather stations and bought a WS2810U-IT with firmware 222.  The thermo/hygrometer does not work.  Not knowing better I bought a TX59UN-1-IT only to find later that it would not work with my unit because I have the older firmware.  The folks over at Lacrosse just offered my sympathy because the TX59U-IT is no longer available.

Does anyone know of anyway that I can use this unit?  I have tried locating TX59U-ITs, but had no luck.  Is there any "fixes" or other replacement parts I could try?  Is there a way to upgrade the firmware?

Any assistance is appreciated.

David

Hello David and welcome to the forum!

The 222 (and 288, 262) firmware releases are no longer available or supported by LaCrosse. These are the first 2800 series wx stations released and had issues with rain gauge and wind readings. LaCrosse quickly stopped these models and replacement parts are nearly impossible to find anywhere. I have been running a 222 firmware model ws-2810 since the end of 2009 and if/when it dies will have to replace the entire system. I have been watching for replacement components just in case but have seen nothing. As you discovered the 'UN-1' series are not compatible.
Any hope in getting your TX59U-IT back to life? What symptoms are you experiencing with it?

Sounds sorta like what I'm faced with here.  I have the 2810, it's been running for 3 years.  Not sure what firmware it has.  Acquired a 2812 display, thinking by chance it would work with the 2810 as an additional display.  No way.  Guess I could always look around for another 2810 display.. ;)...but then again the firmware issue sounds like a major road block.

Thanks Dan for your knowledge.
