New Onset HOBOlink Dashboard
« on: August 31, 2018, 10:07:22 AM »
On Wednesday 8/29 Davis made a new Dashboard display operational on their HOBOlink hosting/cloud site. I first heard it was in development in June, and it was later announced that it would come out on Monday 8/27.

The Dashboard allows a HOBO user to select various visual widgets and select from a list which parameter each one will display. Examples for present readings are a thermometer (for temperature), a curved dial, and an "odometer"-style numeric readout. For trend or history data there are options for line chart and bar chart (with multiple lines possible - I combined temp and dew point in a single line chart like a Weather Underground PWS page does), an area chart, and a wind rose. Plus there is a bland text table of selected "Latest Conditions." The user can select the colors used in each widget and can also change the title of each widget.

These widget elements are originally sized to display in a tile fashion and auto-resize to fit various window display widths, but they can be dragged out larger. They can also be dragged around the display window and arranged in any order the user wants. One nice feature is that you can rename the default name at the end of the URL for a dashboard you make "public" so it isn't a long string of gibberish.

I have been playing around with this for a few days, and you can see mine here:
https://dashboard.hobolink.com/public/5866/web01

There have been recent rumblings in the Weather Underground section of this forum that WU is working toward a similar visual display option. Some commenters have stated that they are not happy that this kind of display takes up more screen space. In my case, I am looking for a highly visual display to attract public attention to display kiosks in addition to publicly-frequented webpages, rather than just a personal weather station webpage for my own use, so that's not as much of an issue for me. And a HOBOlink user doesn't have to use the visual dashboard - the previous display option is still available too.

I have already started compiling a list of additional widgets and options I would like to see added by Davis, but the new dashboard option is a great step forward and meets a need.

Neat. Thanks for sharing.

Bug report: Time period on top left corner defaults to Past Week, but what is shown on graphs is past day. You have to select a different time period and then come back to Past Week to finally see the past week in the graphs.

If you are into large graphical sensor displays you should look into creating a website with one of the various templates available. Saratoga, Meteotemplate, Leuven are just some that come to mind but there are others.

The "Wind From" graphic is totally non-intuitive, using a 180° half circle to represent 360° of wind.

Yes, that is an issue I spotted, too. They presently offer only the wind rose graphic, which covers the last day, week or month. They do not yet offer a "present conditions" graphic suitable for wind direction. I would like to have something like the WU PWS page compass circle, with an arrow in the right location around it for direction and a number inside for the speed.

Thanks! I also spotted this small bug.  - Rich K.

I totally agree. Here I fixed it:

AFTER

Now where shall I send the bill? HOBO owes me.
