June 9 gust front on Sebec Lake
« on: June 11, 2011, 10:16:34 AM »
On June 9 we had a strong cold front passage in New England.  This image sequence shows a gust front approaching and raising a lot of water from the lake surface.  The 4th frame shows a boat being overtaken at the leading edge of the wind.  Last image shows a treetop landed in front of the cam.  30 seconds between frames.  This cam is located at Sebec Lake in central Maine looking WNW.  www.sebeclake.net

White area at the far left shows the approaching gust front

Boater is trying to get away!

Incredible sequence of photos!  8-)  Thanks for sharing!

Do you know if the boat escaped to safety?

Incredible images!  I think watching the water "explode" on the leading edge of a front is one of the most awesome sites to see.  Thanks for sharing.  Uhmm... I have been that boat before #-o.  That is a very "religious" experience!  It's a LOT more fun watching from the beach.

I'd like to hear the story from that boater.  No adverse news reports so guess he was ok.  The water was calm only minutes earlier.  I always keep a cell phone and watch radar when I'm out there. -Mike

Great catch! That's awesome to see.
Do you have a movie of that gust coming in?
