Ws 1001 clone wind gust discrepancies
« on: October 16, 2017, 04:24:26 PM »
We had a light brush with ex-Atlantic hurricane Ophelia here in Cornwall UK today.  I was interested to see if the station maximum wind gust speed record (only since August!) would be beaten.  Indeed it was!  According to the console max/min record, at 1.31 pm BST it hit 67.6 MPH.  But when you look for this figure in the console table record it shows a gust of 27.4 mph at 1.27 pm followed by a gust of 34.9 at 1.32 pm.

Wunderground more or less agrees that the max gust was 68 mph yet the wunderground graph only shows a gust 60 mph.  I'm confused!  :?  Can anybody help with an explanation of why all these figures are different?

It certainly was incredibly windy.  8-)

Your weather station recorded this gust during a 16 second interval that didn't happen to align with it's internal snapshot interval or the 5 minute interval of weather underground.  If that makes sense.

I see, thanks. :-)  I expected differences between the console and Wunderground but differences within the console seems odd to me.

@Transporterman,
if you want finer detail  of the data stored in the console, you can change the Archive Interval. It is shown how to do that  in section 6.3.18 of the WS-1200-IP user manual.
If I remember correctly,  5 minutes was the default. Mine is set to 1 minute now, which is the lowest it will go.

Thanks, I'd forgotten all about that setting.  I had mine set to 5 mins because it meant a lot of scrolling to look though the results but I think I will try it like yours.  :-)

Do you know how to keep the change the display so it stays on for longer?  Mine only stays on for 30 seconds or so.  It doesn't seem to be in with 'Backlight Setup'.

If you turn the brightness all the way down using the brightness buttons on the console, the display will only stay on for 30 seconds if it is outside the display turn on/off times set in the Backlight Display section.

Mine is set to turn on at 5:00am and off at 6:00am when I leave for work. Over the weekends or at night, I just press the backlight button to turn on the display to view the screen.
