Customer Service???? PEAK GUST ISSUE... RIGHT!
« on: October 06, 2012, 12:26:14 PM »
I have addressed this through "customer service" ... here was my original e-mail to LaCrosse...

One issue I have noticed as have many other owners of the 28xx series is that while uploading information to Weather Display or any number of programs that send our information out there to the Internet, most all variables and peaks (highs, lows, etc) are recorded and shown. The one exception to this rule is the maximum wind GUST. NOT SPEED but GUST. Granted it IS displayed on the "Current Weather" screen for the home unit, but that's as far as it goes.

Question then arises... your programers have done such a good job with programming the unit to record the extremes and send them out to the various programs, is there an update available or possibly come up with one that catches that maximum wind GUST and sends it out there for all to see? Thank you.

And here was their reply...

With regard to the following from your email: "is there an update available or possibly come up with one that catches that maximum wind GUST and sends it out there for all to see?"
There is no update that will have a wind gust reporting function. Your suggestion has been noted for future possible consideration.

"Possible consideration"? This is unacceptable to me as I know it is many other owners of the LaCrosse brand weather stations. All we want is to have the peak gust recorded so it will be available on our home computers as well as on the internet in places such as WU. It took all that brain power to come up with all of the features that Heavy Weather records now to send out; why can't LaCrosse perform a customer service and send out or make available a fix to this issue? Failure to accommodate customers in the long run is how companies lose business or even go out of business. I for one will NEVER purchase another LaCrosse station or instrument no matter how inexpensive it is.

I totally agree! That was a truly "unacceptable" response from LaCrosse. Even the email they replied back was way too short and was not at all informative! As Ryan said "Go Davis!!!" :D

I don't think that was a bad response. They took note of your concern and said it may be addressed in the future. I don't know what else you would want. I'm sure they receive many requests for different options and features. Since I don't own one of those units I can't comment on their overall CS.
FWIW back in the early days of CWOP Weatherlink didn't upload wind gusts either.

I agree with you to a certain extent. The question is how many people have they told that to and don't do anything about it? I don't have a LaCrosse so I can't comment on their service either.

I did add option to use the recorded gust value from the history.dat file, for the WS2810 type station
(current data is from the currdat.lst file (which does not have max gust data)
its a retrospective max gust value, i.e max in last 10 minutes I think it is

Maybe it's more to do with your software than your hardware.  I know that DanS (he's never around when you need him!) runs a 23XX and I think a 28XX station.  I have looked at his graphs and it shows wind speed and wind gusts.  I also know that he runs WUHU.

Perhaps if you look at some of these links, you can see what I'm referring to.  And hopefully he'll be here after while to clarify some of the mess I'm making.  :D

I have Weather Display, on both computers that I run weather stations on. Even with a fine program like Weather Display the Maximum GUST is not recorded. Why? Because it is not in the currdat file on Heavy Weather. The ONLY place you can view the high gust on Heavy Weather is on the main screen (see attachment.) NO WHERE is it available other than that, and that is, in my opinion, the big problem.

In the main display you can see as indicated by the pop up information the peak gust was 21.9 at 3:48 p.m. However on the list of data item 11676 and 11677 show nothing near that 21.9 mph. Why not?

No, I seen it. My point being that in that 15 minute span there was a gust of 21.9 hit and yet it shows up no where in the currdat.lst file, period. THAT is the issue, because if it did show up, common sense would dictate, at least to me, that it'd also be transferred to WU and other uploaded avenues along with the daily high, low, etc. Make sense?

I do believe those gusts readings are generated by the host site ie. WU, CWOP, etc. from average wind speed data. (wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong though).
