WS-2813AL-IT
« on: March 05, 2013, 05:53:29 PM »
I have the opportunity to get a brand new WS-2813AL-IT for a really good price ($124 with free shipping). This station would be replacing my (6) year old WS-2308 unit (the rain gauge stopped working 3 years ago). Anyone have any experience with this station? Is it worth the money (at the price I listed) to replace my old unit with this newer one? Any comment/suggestions would be a great help.

Thank you,

Tom

I believe the main consideration is its manufactured date. That is, the more recent units (2012 and later) appear to have the discrepancies resolved that earlier units had. There was a higher rain measurement and leaking wind sensor problem with some of these earlier ws-28xx models. I personally haven't seen anyone complain of these issues with the more recent ones.
Accuracy looks good with temp/humidity since they use the digital sensor vs. the analog thermistor and resistive grid sensor arrangement. I've had my ws2810 set up at the end of 2009 and it's holding up well to the tropical weather elements here though I initially had the high rain readings but corrected that.

Thanks Dan,

To add to my original post, My WS-2308AL has worked flawlessly since I originally purchased it (about 6 years ago, I think), except for the rain gauge. I've been doing a lot of research lately and have discovered that the rain gauge failure may have in fact been the hydro sensor, not the rain gauge. I have been looking into getting a replacement rain gauge (I tossed mine a few years ago), and a new hydro sensor. Unfortunately, the cost is just around $100 for the pear from La Crosse. So, for an additional $24, I could get a completely new wireless system.

The new wireless 2813 is probably a good idea for your main/primary and maybe you could find what you need for the 2308 on e-bay.? to get it going for a back-up/secondary system. That's basically what I'm doing, using my old 2310 since ~2005 and it's still humming right along.
