Woohoo, bringing back a thread that has been dead for months. Bet you all forgot about this one. Anyway, I'm here with great news: apparently you can continue to get updates for XP for free by making one change to the registry: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/05/26/german_tinkerer_gets_around_xpocalypse/
Sounds simple, and they say there don't seem to be any negative effects.

But if MS isn't providing the XP updates, what good would that change do?

Pretty neat!  But I have one XP machine left; moving to embedded Linux devices (Meteobridge, RPi etc.)

Any comments (pro/con) about MYCLEANPC™ coming to the XP rescue?

I have watched (and chuckled) their TV ad's about how MS's "dropping" XP was merely a "scare tactic" for pushing Win-8 sales (which, I kinda agree with).

Microsoft dropped support for regular Windows XP. This little change makes Microsoft think you are running POS 2009 (an embedded version of XP), which is supported until 2019.

Hmm...think I would take issue with any setup that 'tricks' an OS to believing it's another OS, even if it's an embedded version of the OS in question.  Evidently, this is the kind of setup electronics stores use to display their PC rigs on the floor.

While I liked XP (especially SP3 when used with a 32-bit architecture), I've been more than satisfied with Win7.  My issue with XP now is that its 64-bit support is mediocre at best.  This reminds me a little of all those people who tried to extend the life of Windows 98 SE (another OS I loved) when it's lifecycle expired.

That is what I thought, however, I was also curious if ( possibly ) CLEANMYPC had actually come up with something to "...carry-on..." where MS had "...left off..."

Why would they?  They would have to have access to MS proprietary update code.  I'm pretty sure they won't get it.   :-)
