mornin' Gregg. Off to work now?

Hey Dan

I work a 12-hour rotating shift (6 a to 6 p or 6p to 6a).  I'm off until Thursday night.  Then I work four nights off three days, work three days, off a day, work three nights, off three days, work four days, off seven days.

My doctor says that's the kind of schedule they use at Gitmo to interrigate prisoners!

If it doesn't rain, I've got to try to redo my weather station this week (if the tax refund gets here).
I'm going to try the mailbox post/cement/mast idea someone posted on here.

Gee, I hope I'm not turning into a weatherholic!

Okay, it may have a black plastic vented case around it but with good lighting you can see inside the vents.

Oh, sticking to this thread's subject, as of 12:15 GMT Rapid Fire still isn't.

If I stand back from the computer about 15 feet it does look like the culprit. Can you see any substance/coating on it? Like a clear or translucient gel? That's what is used to detect the humidity and if it's moved, touch, wiped, etc. the readings go way off.

Nope.  Nothing there.  (of course trying to clean it with alcohol probably removed any protective coating gel)

I did the same thing to mine, cleaning it to make it better. #-o
O.K. just got my "repair kit out"..If you have some hair styling "hold" gel or "sculpting gel" around check the ingredients for Polyethelene Glycol (PEG). This turns out to be a hygroscopic (sp?) that absorbs moisture. I tried various brands of hair gel because the PEG make up differs with the brands. The most accurate I found is L'Oreal Studio Wetlook and also Paul Mitchell Exrta-body Sculpting Gel. Anyway use a cotton swab and alchohol to clean the sensor chip again, let it dry, then smear a dab of the Gel accross the chip cover the grid completely. Use just enough to cover the grid/face of the chip with a thin layer. Let it dry for about 30 mins. or so. Fire it up and let it settle to see where you are with the readings. You can add another thin layer later if needed or wet (with water) a cotton swab and roll it accross to remove some.
My fingers are crossed.

I hope to get to town today to get parts for the "big move".  I'll print out your instructions and see if I can find some gel.  (we need a smiley with a hairdo!  Maybe an Elvis smiley!)

Did you know that PEG is commonly know as antifreeze?   :-k

Did you know that it's in a lot of stuff we eat?

I'll keep you posted.  (pun intended)

Yeah, it's in a lot of things. I've tried toothpaste with it inside. There's also Lithium Cloride and Lithium Bromide but I'm having a hard time finding it over here. I want to try it. You know how weatherholics can get. (now where is that hairy smiley) :-)

Mine seems to be working now too.  As of 0400 Eastern US, it seemed to be down for everybody. (Yes, overnight shifts suck!)

Dan,

Well, I went to 2 drug stores and WallyWorld.  Nobody had the items you mentioned.  However, I did get some Walgreens Sport Extreme Hold styling gel for $0.99.  It does contiain PEG (but I don't know the percentage).  When I take the mast down outside, I'll disconnect the RH sensor and experiment.

More news as it develops........

Okey Dokey. I'm looking at the 2 tubes I found worked best and the L'Oreal has PEG-8 and PEG-14 in it while the Paul Mitchell has PEG-12 and PEG-41 listed. Not sure what the "weights"(?) mean but go ahead and experiment. I got different upper/lower limits from trying each of them. Let me know what happens and what the Walgreen's PEG-# is to compare.
My weatherholic symptoms are acting up again.

I didn't have a magnifying glass with me today.  I see now that the Walgreen's is PEG-8.  I'll try it, but may have to get stronger gel (if I can find it.  I may have to go to Chattanooga or Knoxville to find some).
