I know someone here worked at a power plant-many in military aeronautics.
What did they do to prepare for this kind of thing?

I work in a powerhouse and this is the first I've heard about it.  It  may have more of an effect on the grid more than an individual powerhouse.

I thought it was you Slow.  Yes, the grid.  I had an educational movie (Savage Sun) that talked about almost taking out a grid in Canada.
Disrupting radio and satellite communication and losing communication with Air Force One when Regan was president.

Well quebec went dark from aurora taking out the grid  few years ago. Obama Air force one lost all comms on his trip to China. That was in news coule 3 days ago. Yet up here where it is normal occurance nothing every happens except radio comms can be  affected. When hf goes out it time to get on 10 and 6m rigs  crank up power and start looking  for the area that auroura bounces radio signal. It  sounds like someone with water voice.

Also the 800 mile pipeline is grounded to keep stray auroura induced currents from build up.
