Weather Trends Edit?
« on: July 30, 2018, 07:57:56 AM »

http://www.pennlake.us/wxtrends.php

Hi,

I am having an issue with my Weather Trends/ Records and Stats/ rain history.

Records and Stats
RAIN   RAIN HISTORY
Today   0.00 in (0.00 in last hour)   Today   0 days since last rain on 25-Jul-2018 11:26pm
Yest.   1.18 in   Week   5.280 in over last 7 days.
Month   6.09 in (11 rain days this month)   Month   0.00 in last month.
Year   28.22 in ( 110 rain days this year)   Year   0.00 in total last year at this time.

If you notices the last 2 lines at the end,  Month 0.00 in last month and Year 0.00 in total last year at this time, are not showing any totals. So rather than show this error, can any one tell me where I can find those 2 lines and edit them out. I would rather not show anything than to show something wrong.

Thanks for any help,

yamiacaveman

These values come from 'testtags.php', so it may be a  'testtags.txt'=>'testtags.php' issue.  You're using Version 1.07 while I'm using Version 1.08 which renders as this trends page.

The 'testtags.txt' Brian distributes with WD is only Version 1.06, so you need to get the latest version from Ken True's SaratogaWx site, Base-USA template.

Thanks Jerry!!!Your version of testtags did the trick for me!

Funny thing is I did a check version about a day before I put up my original post and everything came up good. So I decided to post here.

Also, if you have the time where did you find the newest version -- boy, i spent about a half hour on Ken's site and the best I could find was version 1.07 still the plugin for WD has 1.06

Boy any way again Thanks!

Did you download the '.txt' file rather than the '.php' file?  My previous link was to my 'testtags.php' file.  The '.php' file won't work as a '.txt' file because the '.txt' file is what WD uses to generate new '.php' files from.  Here is the 1.08 '.txt' file.

I don't recall the source of Version 1.08 of testtags.txt...

SIDE NOTE:  When updating WD I use the .zip file which after downloading it I initially right-click on and under Properties check 'Unblock'.  This preserves the file times.  I then rename the .zip by appending -bxx-yyyymmdd (for build no., year, month, and day) to the name.  Then I unzip it after which I sort the directory thus created by 'Last Modified'.  Then I can see which files are new and delete all of the rest which are merely duplicates of what is already in my /wdisplay directory.  Only then will I stop WD and overwrite the old file(s) with the new.

Hi Jerry,

I did put the .txt file into WD version 1.08 at first I did have values where there were none, then they went away, but now it appears to be working again?????
I guess it had to update itself.

Again Thanks Jerry!!!

The active testtags.txt file is, I think, in your 'webfiles' directory. Try updating it to 1.08 there.

Hi Jerry,

So again I checked for a 1.08 version of testtags.txt and could not come up with one - I used yours and have it in WD and has been running for about an hour now.

So -- some of the numbers have changed - some are still yours - and I am not sure "When or If" the rest will ever change to my numbers.

This comparison:
 http://www.pennlake.us/wxtrends.php   to
https://www.gwwilkins.org/wxtrends.php

I'll give it a day to see if it updates correctly - perhaps there is a place in WD I can adjust.

Have you restarted WD?

Otherwise, I don't think you have placed 'testtags.txt' Version 1.08 in the correct directory for WD to process it because there's no evidence that your 'testtags.php' is updating.  The changes appear to be from your 'clientraw.txt'.

I was referring to the 'webfiles' directory under '/wdisplay', i.e. 'c:/wdisplay/webfiles'.   I think this is the key location for WD to access and process 'testtags.txt'.  This locatin can be modified in WD under 'WebfilesSetup#1, and I have done so on one computer which runs my primary WD so this makes the 'webfiles' directory there 'c:\wamp\www\WeatherDisplay'.

Also, Brian has pointed out that running WD on any drive other than 'C:' may be problematic.

I did a bit of a file compare between the 1.07 version and the 1.08 version - added some test tags from the 1.08 to the 1.07 going to see what will happen, lol, most likely back to square 1, lol.

Well I guess I'm back to square one -- but at least I have my totals back I added this to version 1.07, seemed like the only difference (unless I missed something )  but no changes yet.

/ average temp and rain by month (V1.08 addition)

$avtempjannow = '%avtempjannow%';
$avtempfebnow = '%avtempfebnow%';
$avtempmarnow = '%avtempmarnow%';
$avtempaprnow = '%avtempaprnow%';
$avtempmaynow = '%avtempmaynow%';
$avtempjunnow = '%avtempjunnow%';
$avtempjulnow = '%avtempjulnow%';
$avtempaugnow = '%avtempaugnow%';
$avtempsepnow = '%avtempsepnow%';
$avtempoctnow = '%avtempoctnow%';
$avtempnovnow = '%avtempnovnow%';
$avtempdecnow = '%avtempdecnow%';

$avrainjannow = '%avrainjannow%';
$avrainfebnow = '%avrainfebnow%';
$avrainmarnow = '%avrainmarnow%';
$avrainaprnow = '%avrainaprnow%';
$avrainmaynow = '%avrainmaynow%';
$avrainjunnow = '%avrainjunnow%';
$avrainjulnow = '%avrainjulnow%';
$avrainaugnow = '%avrainaugnow%';
$avrainsepnow = '%avrainsepnow%';
$avrainoctnow = '%avrainoctnow%';
$avrainnovnow = '%avrainnovnow%';
$avraindecnow = '%avraindecnow%';

After reading the OP more carefully, I see I have the same problem.

I don't believe its a testtag problem as much as possibly a setting (or even a bug) in WD. Unfortunately I am not proficient with WD to know where to look.

Looking in the file; WD-trends-inc.php the two RAIN HISTORY values for MONTH & YEAR are derived by the tags...
Code: [Select]
$raintodatemonthago = '%raintodatemonthago%';
$raintodateyearago = '%raintodateyearago%';
These tags were included in the WD testtags.txt as far back as, at least v1.06.

They are included in my testtags.txt but after processing by WD my testtags.php has...
Code: [Select]
$raintodatemonthago = '0.00';
$raintodateyearago = '0.00';

Added: I'm running version 10.37s Build 75 of WD.

H'mmmm, not sure if it's related to the problem.

In the WD taglist the two tags are described as...
Code: [Select]
%raintodatemonthago%........Rain to date last month (via the trends)
%raintodateyearago%.........Rain to date last year (via the trends)

Under the WD "View" tab, I see "Trends". Opening this panel...

 [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

There are values for Rainfall Last Month & Last Year, so I don't understand why these tags are processed as 0.00's. Also don't understand the "in. snow" shown under Rainfall - Current.

Well, after rummaging around in WD, all of a sudden WD is processing the tags for me and the 1.42 in. & 19.74 in. values seen in my Trends screenshot show up in my online wxtrends.php page.

Don't know why, I didn't change any settings. I did click "OK" on some of the settings screens, and did click "Refresh" on the Trends screen.

Hi Dennis,

Well your investigating paid off for me too. I went into View - trends   -- did a refresh and OK and also into View - Graphs - Rain chart clicked on update and ok then went to View - Graphs - Temp/Wind/Rain chart clicked on update then ok  waited my 5 minutes for it to update and my totals also came back.

Of course I will continue to check it out!

Is it a bug glitch in WD?  I should probably report it in the WD forum but I really would not know how to handle myself when the questions started. I believe when Brian sees a post from me he gets that sick feeling in his stomach, knowing he has to deal with me and my not knowing, lol, I do feel sorry for hi, lol.

Thanks for the detective work!!!

Tomorrow is a new Month - hopefully it will hold.

again thanks

Glad you got things sorted out, guys. WD can be very frustrating to set up at times because of anomalies like this.  We are accustomed to seeing immediate results from our set-up changes, but WD often has other ideas. 'Arcane' is the kindest description I can come up with. To be fair, WD deals with many complex interlocking bits and pieces of hardware, software, and data.

Hey yamiacaveman,

I'm glad you were able to get your rain history to work also. At least we know where to look (WD Trends) if/when the problem reappears.

Yeah, I'm uncomfortable over at Weather-Watch. Folks are much more friendly/helpful here at WXForum.

I'm curious what you have on your WD Trends panel under Rain-Current? Weird mine has "snow". I'll have to look at mine the next day we have rain.

To be fair, WD deals with many complex interlocking bits and pieces of hardware, software, and data.Jerry, I agree.

Brian has been very cooperative at adding support for otherwise uncommon devices. I am very appreciative of his supporting the Porcupine Labs LR4 with Fluke 414D Rangefinder for measuring snow.

But now I wonder if something I setup for measuring snow is now why I have the "snow" in my WD Trends current rainfall.

Oh yes Please -- Don't take me the wrong way with Brian and WD. How do I put it -- I know very little about this stuff - the best I can say is that I "try" but I can't imagine keeping your sanity while trying to deal with people like me on a daily basis, and Brian does just that. I don't know how he does it. For what -15 years I have been asking stupid questions - so I really try not to bother him.

Dennis -- yes I also have the snow thing in my WD Trends current rainfall.
But --- I also have the software installed for the snow laser. I had purchased one (and with some help) got it set up and working -- really only tested I plan to get it up and running this winter - soo perhaps that has to do with the laser stuff???????

So, today starts a new month and for me the issues continues but with a little twist;

I do have numbers showing in the 2 categories but they did not change --- Last months total is still the same as 2 months ago and not reflecting July's totals.
The same with the year total.

So -- I went to WD --- View - Trends and did the refresh thing and now waiting for the update and to see if anything changes.

If not I will continue to View and Rain chart wait and then continue to View Temp/Wind/Rain chart -- just to do it on an individual basis.

OK -- so after the wait back to 0.00 total for last month but I do have a total for last year.

Going to the other charts as mentioned above.

Ok - so I checked some other sites and I see they also have 0.00 for last month under Rain History.
I might be missing something but wouldn't that column mean how much rain we had Last Month - I know I had some, unless it means something else.

Of course the 2 other site I checked also use the snow laser stuff - so I guess I should look at some other sites?
