Ambient Weather Falcon WS-8478A vs Osprey WS-2000
« on: January 05, 2019, 06:32:59 PM »
I have narrowed down my search to these 2 stations:

Ambient Weather Falcon WS-8478 A
Ambient Weather Falcon WS-2000

They have the same price and I have gone over the features and specs of each but really do not see a difference except the displays. If anyone could shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it and place my order...finally. LOL

Well, if sensor accuracy/range of operation is important to you, the 8478 is without a doubt superior, and that's according to Ambient's own site. Frankly, I was quite surprised by the differences.

I am still somewhat new to the weather station game I greatly appreciate your response!  I am now digging deeper into the specs and see your point. I guess I was more focused on the display, possibilities to expand and the display quality. I just joined here but was reading that the newest technology seems to be the Osprey WS-2000 on other posts...still reading.

Thanks again CW2274!

I guess I was more focused on the display
 Trust me, you're by no means the only one who thinks that way, good or bad. Your decision, at least in my eyes, is simply what's more important to you, what's in the door, or out.

I appreciate that...looks like it's gonna be the WS-2000 and now to look at my mounting options.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Good choice. Hardly anybody buys the WS-8478 compared to WS-2000 and WS-2902A. Information I got from my analysis of WU reporting stations.

Also if you read posts around this forum you'll notice that the WS-8478 is not discussed. The WS-2000 and WS-2902A seem to be a the favorites. The WS-8478 is missing solar radiation (but it does have UV). If the WS-8478 has a better sensor, it is not better by much nor enough to counter the other benefits of the WS-2000.

Thanks for the reply! After reading for an hour I found the WS-8478 was not talked about at all as opposed to the WS-2000. I think I found my new station and already placed my order. I think the WS-2000 was what I was looking for...

Thanks everyone for your feedback!!!!
