Meteostick RPi option
« on: April 11, 2015, 11:32:09 PM »
I am a firm believer in the value of using Meteohub on a RaspberryPi with a Meteostick for retrieving data from a DVP2. It's an elegant way to capture data from the VP2 (docbee says a 16G uSD card will hold about 10 years worth of data) as well as send the data to your website of choice. You can also graph data from the Hub and send data to SQL dbs. What's cooler than that?

However, the Meteostick option comes with a bulbous USB cable that can be eliminated with a compact USB Up connector. Mine cost a paltry $US 6, shipped! It works great and allows a little better antenna placement. The only problem is that I can't see the ethernet ports data lights now, although they are winking as usual.

oh, what you mean by "USB Up connector" is a Right angle connector/adapter, now it makes sense.
Thats a good idea!

I called it an "Up" connector because you can also get one with a "Down" orientation. That might not have worked as well.
But I get your point, I didn't mention it was a right angle adapter. I hope the pic made that clear.

Or just get a rotating, swivel USB for a couple bucks and then down can be up!  :)

I thought about that, but decided the swivel might be less reliable than a fixed adapter. It could also get knocked off position accidentally, but if you are the careful type it is another choice.  :-)

The nice thing about the rotating, swivel is that if you wall mount your Pi you do not have to buy another adapter.  :)

Why would you need to swivel if you can mount the Pi vertically and just plug the Stick into the port?

But what if you mount it vertically like in a VESA application?  :)

Why would a video standards application apply to an RF stick orientation?

Various sources make an adapter that you can mount the RPi on the back of a TV or monitor.
