Use of 4" "CoCoRaHS" gauge for COOP
« on: July 09, 2017, 08:25:02 AM »
I became aware of a posting on the NWS local site for a COOP observer for my area. I emailed my offer to the COOP coordinator who is also the CoCoRaHS guy at the area NWS office.

In the NWS Observing Handbook No. 2, it has both the SRG and the 4" gauge for the manual instruments. If they accept my offer, I would like to use the CCR type gauge, for a number of reasons, mostly dealing with snow measurement.

Any of your COOP guys, do they typically allow the 4" plastic gauge, or do they insist on the SRG? I have seen the site of the previous COOP observer and saw that he has the "Standard Rain Gauge" 8".
