Carried out a rudimentary check of the temps of a Vue console with a 'new' WL USB logger using a simple IR thermometer.
There are various hot areas on the outside of the case, the hottest being in the recess that the logger sits in which is about 1 decC hotter than the logger which itself is about 1 degC hotter than other parts of the case nearby.
There are vent holes in the bottom and the top of the case for through flow of air.
The IR thermometer read the same temp on some parts of the case and nearby surfaces which was, in turn, the same as the Console indoor temp.
So although the Logger is obviously putting out heat in normal use, it does not seem to affect the temp reading of the Vue Console.
Belfryboy, I understand you have taken one of these WL loggers apart - what is in there that would put out so much heat anyway? I would not expect much heat to be generated and the black potting should emit any heat fairly readily. However it is in a semi-enclosed space (in the Vue) which won't help. Don't know how the internal layout, case and thermal arrangements for the Vue and VP2 consoles compare.
