OH MY!!!
I just clicked your link to the very first post and the rest reeds like a history book.
The demeanor of the forum was created in the very first posts...
Congratulations on your outstanding achievement!
Randall
Thanks Randall,
There were 4 of us who established wxforum.net after the sudden demise of Gary Oldham's weatherforum.net (due to domain hoster demise and snatch of the name by the DNS peddlers) left weather enthusiasts without a home to continue the discussions about our hobby. We followed Gary's original rules for forum demeanor and the result has been (with very few exceptions) a cordial and helpful place to share knowledge and experiences about our weather hobby (including hardware, software and website stuff).
It's the members who make it fun and useful. We admins have a easy job as there is little cat-herding to be done and we can participate with our own hobby development experiences too.
Under users in the past 30 minutes on the home page of the forum I saw a MSN,Google and a Yahoo name? You can't click on it. Just wondering what this was.
I've enabled the tracking of Spiders who now show when they are crawling the website to index pages for their search engines -- expect them to pop on/off as they do their reading of the pages. We get a lot of guest visitors through searches on the major search companies (Google, Yahoo!, MSN/Bing, etc.) You can't click on their names since they do not have corresponding userids to show their forum profiles -- it's just information about who/what is accessing the forum in the last 30 minutes.
Wow! That's a flashback! Hard to believe it's been ~7.5 years already. I see I had the 13th post on the "new" forum. It's interesting how many original members from that thread aren't here anymore.
Yes, it is surprising that we've been doing this for 7.5 years, and growing all the time. It looks like about 500 members have visited the forum in the last 35 days -- not bad for a member list of almost 7,500.
Of the original 4 admins, only two are still active Chris (Capeweather) and me (saratogaWX). I'm glad that Chris (SLOweather) joined us so there are still three primary admins to share the duties. I'm also very thankful that very little 'moderation' duties are required as the forum members treat each other with respect and not name-calling (generally) -- that makes it a pleasant and useful visit for our newer members with questions/problems needing assistance, and that assistance is what is provided.
Best regards,
Ken
