The posting ban is for failure to learn and adhere to proper forum etiquette, after many repeated attempts at counseling, and many warnings by forum admins and other members. He is free to continue to read postings as much as he wants. However, he cannot post or PM.

This is not an action we take lightly, and many behind-the-scenes discussions lead up to it. However, it is one that is overdue.

He is a kid but he's been warned countless times by admins and members. Hate to see him go  but if you can't play by the rules you can't play at all!  Thanks admins for keeping the forum professional!  Great work!

The moderators on this forum do a great job making this an informative and yet civil, relaxed and welcoming place.  I'm sure it's not an easy job and they do it because they care.

I tend to agree with you. But on the other hand, if people see what can happen, it may deter them from acting in a way that may get them banned.

That's why capital punishment is usually made public...a not-so-subtle form of public cautionary training, ie: "...beware, this could happen to you!"

There were countless discussions via pm and email that were done privately that will remain private. The public announcement on his banning was to keep the forum community informed. It's better to tell everyone now than hear it from someone else later. Will is a sharp and bright young man but he needs to mature a little bit and I really hope he learns something from the action we have taken today. It was a group decision and we felt it was the best thing for wxforum.net at this time.

With Will's posting frequency, it would have taken about 12 hours for someone to post "what happened to Will".  So it would have come out then anyway.

I dont mind the public list too much.  Some forums even put the "status" under their username on postings, where we show "forecaster" etc.  That's good too, as it lets future posters know that a reply to their post probably wont be re-replied to by OP.

Sorry to see this happen. He seemed to be walking the straight and narrow after the last time. Didn't see what precipitated this. Hopefully this will be helpful to him.

I remember a year ago there was a similar incident which I'm sure most of us remember. I won't resite any names but Before I remember the moderators saying they only had one eviction prior and now in about a years time 3. Crazy coincidence?


Will's going through what any 14 year old goes through. The testosterone gets surging and bad decisions are inevitable. Hopefully Will learns from this. One of these days he'll be hormonaly sober

Yup, more meaningless posts in the past couple of days over there too.

I would suspect that his banning was simply due to his failure to understand that "posting just to be posting" serves no one and only draws the wrong attention to someone like Will. Many of his posts were nothing more than him trying to be a good guy with answers. Unfortunately, many of his posts were downright wrong and gave bad information. Hopefully, he will learn from this experience and become a good participant in other forums of his liking. I do wish him the best.

I must be getting dense.. I don't see the problem in that thread.  Oh well,  rats  better go to work before it gets too late.   Quiz on plate tectonics to give. yesterday's class was more dense than I am in getting why he was banned.

I was banned over on Weathermatrix and that got very nasty for the moderator when I emailed the whole thing to his boss. hah.    Take care and may the weather you want is what you get.
