WeatherLink 6.x won't install on Windows 7 machine
« on: February 20, 2018, 04:13:12 PM »
This seems to be a rare problem for the WeatherLink software, but my laptop has been kept updated and is very stable.  I'm not finding much material on troubleshooting and suggestions to change compatibility mode on the setup EXE and run as Admin haven't helped.  It always dies about 50-75% into the install with the "Thereis a problem with this Windows Installer Package.  A program..."

I can't find an updated download, although I believe it's a very late version of the SW.  It came with the USB data logger on CD...

Tech support appears out for today (Tuesday, Feb 20) so I'll have to try again on a day off next week.  Any suggestions I can try in the evenings when I get home?  I can provide HW and SW details if you think that helps diagnose the issue(s).  Note I'm pretty PC savvy (was a Windows programmer back in the day).  Thanks.

Any hints about the failure in the Windows Log Files?

Hmm, wouldn't be surprised if the CD isn't perfect, or at least the combination of the CD and drive may not be perfect. Any possibility of being able to copy the CD contents on to C:\ and trying the install from there?

Which 6.x are you specifically trying to install? There are 3 full versions and 3 upgrade versions.

Seems like Windows error 1722 is quite common.
Just Google it and there plenty instructions how to fix it. Hopefully it will solve yours.

Ah, so it's the USB driver that's causing the error. You don't have the USB logger connected during the attempted install do you?

I had the same problem and contacted Davis. They gave me a Version 5 and it worked fine.

Once you installed version 5, were you able to upgrade to the later version?

Success!  After calling tech support and talking with Drew (outstanding support!), I was sent a version of the software install without the drivers which went fine, then directed to a website to download and install the drivers separately, also successfully.  I'm up and running!  Onward to connecting to WeatherLink network, CWOP and WeatherUnderground, then decide if this works fine or just send the AmbientWeather metobridge back.

UPDATE: and I'm up on WeatherLink (JWJordans).  Now to figure out how to connect to Weather Underground.
