Experimental NOAA/NWS Widget
« on: January 23, 2014, 11:00:08 AM »
Just got the following from a friend at NWS...

***
The NWS is testing a new widget and adaptable web page service. The service brings together NWS forecast and warning data in a package that allows web developers to embed NWS information in their pages quickly and easily as a widget. In addition, the same code, when viewed in any web browser on any device (e.g., smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers), will adapt to the screen's size appropriately.

A description of how to use the widget and a link to the stand-alone adaptable web page version is online at:

    http://innovation.srh.noaa.gov/NWSwidget/about.php

Users are encouraged to provide feedback on this experimental product by using the brief survey and comment form online at:

    http://www.nws.noaa.gov/survey/nws-survey.php?code=FWOWW
***

I have posted it to http://tiggrweather.net/nws-widget.html. Looks good there, but on my iPhone it does not adapt to the screen size automatically as mentioned. That's what the survey is for.

Note that, while the 'local' code does not adapt (would be nice if it did), the additional URL they provide on the about.php page above does adapt nicely.

FWIW...

Pretty nice.  You can see it on my test page expanded out to 600x650.  Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, you're right.  I'd say they have a bit of a calculation problem.

Valentine Ne. wind direction shows SSW when ASOS at airport reports NW wind. Page Az. still way off on wind chill. Showing it feels feels like about 30 degrees high.
Nice widget but looks full of bugs. The two areas I wanted to use it there are errors.
