Ambient Weather stations in the UK
« on: January 04, 2019, 11:26:22 AM »
Hi, firstly I am well aware that Ambient weather stations use 915Mhz to transmit/receive which is not permitted in Europe.....but never-the-less I wondered if anyone was ignoring this and had got their hands on their kit and were using it without interference problems in the UK/Europe.

Why the interest in Ambient Weather....well it seems to me that they sell much more of the FOSH kit than anyone else and also kit availability support is poor in Europe. I also quite like the ambientweather.net which they wont let you use or licence unless you are using their kit. The pricing is also keen and I could get my hands on the Ambient weather kit and bring it back to the UK cheaper than paying for less from local suppliers or Aercus/Froggit kit assuming they sell all the parts I want (which they still don't).

What if it works and you have no interference problems? Does that make it okay? Or are you concerned about what interference you may be causing to others?... What if you cause interference to first responders? What about the risk of exposing yourself to unlawful use that puts you in legal trouble?

My point is that you should be considering all of these things and more, not just will it work.

All good points and need consideration, though I know that emergency service do not use these frequencies but that's not really the point I guess.
I suppose I am really just clutching at straws as the choice in Europe is so poor compared to the kit sold by Ambient.
In an ideal world they (Ambient) would sell their kit internationally using the approved European frequency. I am sure they would have a market and I would for sure buy from them.

What model from Ambient Weather are you interested in? The popular choice now is the WS-2902A or the WS-2000. You can get the WS-2902A in a European version from Misol or Froggit. You can then add the Aercus version of the ObserverIP. So what exactly are you after?

I would prefer the equivalent of the WS2000. It does seem as though if I want a oberverIP as well I will end up with spare outside sensor suite and it all makes it very expensive.
No one is selling the WS2000 though just the equivalent of the WS2902.
Honestly if you were on my side of the pond you would be extremely pissed at the lack of choice/kit and prices that you have to pay, hence the temptation to use "illegal" US spec kit from Ambient!

Well I understand the desire for the WS-2000 display console as I want one too, but it isn't available separately and I've already invested in the WS-2902A. I've gotten word from Ambient that the WS-2000 display console will be available in March. We'll see what happens.

As for a European WS-2000 with 433MHZ it might exist. Contact Fine Offset and see about what reseller has the HP2550.

Also contact Misol and Froggit or any other European FO resellers to convince them that you want them to sell a HP2550.

I found this link in this other forum discussing this very topic. Might be a good idea to stay on top of it for new information. Good news here about Aercus possibly selling it soon.
