Mag Mount for Temp Sensor?
« on: May 11, 2011, 04:24:53 PM »
A friend with a motorhome has just purchased an AW-1090 station...He asked me if he could use a juryriggeed magnetic mount for his temp/humidity sensor so that he could move it around on his motorhome depending on how he was parked at the time...I want to appear to be intelligent and informed (?)...Will he have any problems with a mag mount (interference, etc?) Thanks,

Steve

The magnet shouldn't affect the sensor.

OTOH, ensure the roof or wherever he wants to stick it is steel. Our moho roof has an aluminum skin over thin plywood, and the walls are fiberglas. I had to screw down a steel plate for the sat phone mag mount antenna.

It's hard to get a decent outdoor temp reading anywhere on a motorhome for several hours after stopping. It takes a while for all the engine and exhaust heat to dissipate.

Maybe a suction cup would be better.

My folks did the same thing with their motor home when they had it. As SLOweather mentioned, it can take a while to get good readings as the RV cools but after you get in position you can place the sensor the farthest point up wind to avoid the heat radiated.

I know this is an old thread, but for what it's worth, I used velcro and it worked well, but it was always attached somewhere it wouldn't fall if the adhesive let go.
