« on: April 13, 2017, 01:34:39 PM »
Is there a support group or a 12 step program for weather nuts?

1 WH1080 + 1 very old laptop + Meteobridge + 0 SW...

yet given I work as a meteorologist, do a PhD in this field and spend most of my time with Meteotemplate I probably spend more time doing weather-related stuff than almost all of you :D

1. Admitted we were powerless over all gadgets, gimmicks and scripts weather related, that our websites, rooftops, computer rooms, and back yards had become unmanageable.
2. Sort of came to believe that a Power Greater than Ourselves might restore us to sanity, maybe....
3. Made a decision to turn our weather-related will and our software controlled life over to that Spouse or Significant Other. Tried to understand them. At least for the moment.
4. Made a searching and fearless inventory of all our accumulated gadgets, gimmicks and scripts. Right.
5. Admitted to Spouse or Significant Other the exact stuff we would flush. Mostly.
6. Became more or less willing to have spouse or significant other aid in the removal of all obsolete or excess gadgets, gimmicks and scripts, that we couldn't hide.
7. Tearfully asked them to set up a garage sale ...or special trash pickup.
8. Made a list of neighbors and family who had grown tired of looking at our stuff, hearing us talk about it, and the time we spent with it.
9. Made amends to such people, and offered them our obsolete gadgets and gimmicks at very low prices prior to garage sale or trash day.
10.Continued to take inventory, and only update gadgets, gimmicks and scripts whenever necessary due to large Coronal Mass Ejection damage, API rewrites, or uncontrollable impulse.
11. Sought through better time management to improve our concious contact with Spouse, Significant Other, Family, etc. and  to mow the lawn...if rain not forecast according to 7 day outlook.
12. Having had a rude awakening as the result of these steps, tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles whenever there was no weather event in progress somewhere.

Admitting your problem is the first step to recovery.

But in this case-why?

...Why?... well, sometimes those "higher powers" might get noisy... and admitting ain't always equivalent to accepting.

Technically, it's "Houston, we've had a problem".  Another one of history's misquotes.

https://history.nasa.gov/SP-350/ch-13-1.html

But hey, "Problem?  What problem?"  :-)

When I showed one of the local Hams my weather equipment (and Ham shack), his comment was "I thought that I was nuts...".

I find all of the "wife" comments amusing. I'm divorced and currently not dating, I got sick of the games. So, I have six weather stations, over 10 ham radios and I wouldn't even begin to start counting guns, it's a lot.

Wow. You should go to nearby areas without any weather data in your town and volunteer to install some of those to fill in the gaps!

Was from a few years ago. I went crazy with anemometers. Removed most of them except for 3.

I'm 57 years old and have been doing this for as long as I can remember...my basement is full of all my old weather  gadgets that I've used thru the decades.
