Which Windows version? Can you see anything relevant in the Ports section of Device Manager - if you have the driver correctly loaded then you should be able to see which COM port is assigned to the USB adapter?

Sorry, but I don't usually have time to help with individual issues by email unless you are a Prodata customer. Please post your issue in the relevant forum section here & I will comment there if I have anything useful to add.

Exactly spot on Bruce!  These wildly popular machines are great for this app. The ill-informed "Negative Nancies" are always welcome to start an "Anything But Netbook" thread.  I promise not to troll there. :)

Yep, in reviewing the AC power requirements, I found the the Acers run on 30 or 35 watts while my 14.1" used Dell requires 90 watts.  So the Acers only require around a third as much electricity.  And if my writing that is considered an offensive trolling remark that contributes nothing of supporting and informative interest to the topic, then I'm sorry.

I don't think anyone has actually measured the power draw on one of these while it was running a weather program and reported their results here.  If they have, I've lost the power numbers in this long thread.  #-o

That is running Weatherlink and a few other utility pgms.  The solid state disk is what really keeps the draw down.

Thanks for that info, Bushman, but I was more wondering about the power draw on these Acers that everyone seems to be getting? Your Asus is impressively low on power consumption.

... But the one thing I like with running the Wx on the desktop is keeping the Davis Summary screen open and active. Is that something that can be easily addressed if running the Acer as the data pusher to the website?

Not sure I really understand what you are getting at.  You can run teh WL software and DL as per the scheduyle and see the summary  bulletin on the (smallish) screen.  Or do you mean keep it alive during DL and view the  summary?
Running WL on the desktop as I do, I keep the Summary screen always open on a 19" screen - I like the listed data. If I had WL running on the Acer to gather and send data (as I do w/ the desktop), would I be able to gain enough remote control of the WL software from the desktop to view its Summary screen on the desktop's 19" monitor while it's running on the Acer?

Yes - as long as you run a copy (licenced of course!  :)  ) on both machines and they communicate.

There's an article here http://de.babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-home&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvps8324694103.serverpool.info%2Faaowiki%2Fhowto%3Acreate_recovery_dvd&lp=de_en&btnTrUrl=%C3%9Cbersetzen on how to install another version of eRecovery that will create a recovery disk, but of course, you'd have to attach an external CD/DVD drive...

and be able to do third level transmulation on that text!

I have a small blow up raft w/ 2 plastic oars - would that prove to be elegant enough?
