Title: THGR122NX (formerly THGR268) replacing THGR968
Post by: SlowModem on December 04, 2008, 11:23:29 PM
Supposedly, the THGR122NX can be used to replace the THGR968 temperature/humidity sensor.  The replacement is battery only, but it is supposed to be very accurate (even the humidity!).  However, I keep hearing that it can not be read on channel 0, only on channel 1, 2, or 3.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

You are correct in your statements, but I do not have one.

The  THGR122NX is a replacement for the THGR268.  Not sure if its any more accurate than the THGR268, just new...  But I have heard from some users that the 268 was more reliable that the thgr968 that comes with the station as channel 0.

So yes, it can not be used as channel 0 with the station, but if you use it as channel 1, in vws it can be swapped for outdoor and be used in all your calcs, and databases.

Yes,
I have replaced the original THGR968 with a 268... The humidity readings are much more accurate than the original unit. HOWEVER, my 268 just went south on me and I just ordered a 122NX. I am wondering if the batteries are causing he problem with lower humidity readings or the sensor has really gone bad... The temperature portion of the 268 seems to be good though.

My humidity readings are low with my THGR-268. I have added an 11.00 offset in vws to compensate.

The Source by Circuit City (formerly radio shack - Canada) just liquidated the radio shack equivalent of the thgr268, that came with a 3 channel base station.  Got 4 basestations, and remotes for 9.99 each.  Used to retail for $70-80.  The sensor alone was $30-40, even though ambient sold the OS version for $25-29 but after old fx/recent fx plus UPS bribe came to about $40 anyway...

So I am good for remote replacements for a while...

Are you talking about the 968 or the 268 when using the offset? I had to do that with the 968 but the 268 was dead on.... Just curious....  :?:

I was talking about the Original Temp/Humidity Sensor that came with the unit, whatever the number is.

Ok, that's the THGR-968 that comes with the original station. The THGT268 is a standalone unit that looks like the indoor baro/temp/hum unit.....

I'm talking about the aditional temp/humid sensor that can be use on Ch1 Ch2 or Ch3.

The model number has not changed since I bot my first one several years ago, long before I had a weather station.  Its 63-1030 thats the packaged one, that came with a base station and one sensor.  The individual sensors model number was 63-1031.

here is the current link for the sourcecc.
http://www.thesource.ca/estore/product.aspx?language=en-CA&product=6301030

Even though these went from RadioShack to became Nexxtech after cc took over, nothing has change but the paint scheme.

I checked the local radio shack, and their online site, no more of these around in the US.

Thanks mackbig for posting the link. Man, by now I SHOULDN'T GET CONFUSED about these things, but I thought you were talking about the THGR968 (the original OA sensor/channel 0 unit).  ](*,)

You'd think by now Oregon Scientific might have come-out with a sensor you can switch to the THGR968 frequency, whatever that is...  :???:

or perhaps a mod for the others that would make it channel NULL available.

Pardon the new guy here, but I am also having problems with my 968 and replaced it with a THGN123N. It reads on channel 1 so I don't have my windchill working. Is there something I'm missing about the set up? Will I have to route this through my PC to get windchill? and finally, how good is OS about replacing the defective 968 if you don't have a receipt?

Clarkster,
There is no solution to getting windchill back on your console when you replace the thgr968 with a channel 1 solution.  However if you use software like VWS you can swap for data/reporting, so your screen display or website (created with vws) will have windchill calculation using the channel 1 informaton

once you have your data on your pc/web, i doubt you will ever really use your console again, aside from channel searches, bara offset, and annual rain gauge reset.

I got an email from OS the other day about mine.  Here's part of what they had to say:

"THGR968 is on backorder if you want to get on the back order list I will need to create a new RMA and you will have to send back the defective unit to us."

They told me they didn't have any more when I first contacted them in June.  Soooooooooooo, you probably have the best set up you can expect to have.  But, if your thgr968 is still under warranty, I'd get on to them to send you another one, just because that's what they should do.

They should come up with a better sensor, or at least keep a lot of them in stock.

The 968 is really a good unit and I'd buy another one if I had to do it over.  And I get the impression they did a purge at their customer service and they're trying to make it better.  But the THGR968 really sucks.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I too found the original THGR968 to be useless for  humidity.  I bought a 122NX and it is better but still of by asa much as 10- 15% at times.  When I check on all the stations in the area you can tell which ones are OS stations because they are all much lower than the rest.
 Today I found a website that listed the THGR268 as in stock. It is not from a weather site.  It is from a Hydroponic supplier.  I ordered one from them and I hope I don't get an e-mail saying it is no longer available :-(, or, that they don't send me a 122NX instead ](*,).  After I ordered the one, I continued to search and there was a couple more sites that listed them.  I will include address below.  I hope I copied them all correctly.   [-o<I really hope I don't get a reply back that you all already tried these guys and none worked out.  Oh well, maybe a new 122NX will work better.

Sam,
I could have sworn that I had looked at Ambient before but I guess I did not see it.  The one I ordered today costs $39.95, so I hope they really have it.  If they do I might order another one.   Mark

Yeah it's hard to find stuff on ambient.  If you use ambient's search for the part number or model number you have a better chance to find it.  If you try to drill down thru the menus to find a replacement part, usually you will have no luck.

Forgot to add that sometimes the OS website sells stuff cheaper than Ambient.  Always check there as well.

In reference to the question about using channel 1, how do you swap the data/reporting  in VWS so windchill will be calculated?  Obviously since I swithched from the null channel 968 to channel 1, I have missed the windchill.
And, is there a way to get dewpoint as well?
                             Thanks!!  Mark

IN VWS.... Settings>Advanced Parameter Settings> Outdoor temp - Use Channel 1 as Outdoor temp and hum. <<<-Click box on.  Dew point and wind chill on VWS will then update itself.  Channel 1 and Channel Null essentailly switch Channel numbers
Most people including myself, use this hidden feature while waiting for a replacement sensor.

 Sam, \:D/
Thanks for the good information!!  I don't know what I would do without all of you pro's out there who know how to make this stuff work right.  Now I have to make some changes to my VWS displays.
For the last several months I have been using a calculator program for dewpoints and windchills.  Now I am freeeeee!
                                           thanks again!!  Mark
