Minor AirLink Mod.
« on: November 28, 2020, 03:31:49 PM »
Having previously read the data sheets & application notes for the couple of Sensirion SPS30 sensors I've been playing with for the past six months I made this change to my AirLink a week or so back.

Reading the application notes, the AirLink follows the recommendations when used without the cover.
But with the Shade/Cover on it may or may not be recirculating under given conditions.
The Cover may extend a bit too low?????

My simple change was just to cut a bit of PVC duct & wedge it under the cover so it creates separation between the inlet & outlet.
A Pic says it all.

Cheers.

Looks like a good idea.

My day 1 mod was to add some mesh to the inlet/outlet ports to keep the little critters out. I just know mine would have been full of spiders and earwigs within a month or two!

I cut an old electric razor foil to size - stainless steel and should be easy to wipe clean every so often. Not very elegant, but it should do the job.

Would be nice to have airflow in chamber where SIM is housed. They never seal good and this would allow vents with bug screens. Nice mod.

The bugs/gnats issue completely slipped my mind..........
Despite the fact that I fully intended to keep the bugs out.

My intended way of addressing it was to use the screen Davis supplies.
Read about it months before I received mine; RTFM was long forgotten the day it arrived.

Page 7 of the manual.....

Cheers

And now that I'm reminded, swapping them about would drop the 1, 3 & 24 hour averages if I power it down.
(That's the Presumption).

Always did consider that an issue with values retained & averaged in the device regarding power interruptions.

On the screen, I think I can manage to swap mine live.
Needs to be a priority with our current Summer insect activity.

Opened my AirLink Up yesterday & swapped the Screens.

The Gauze is pretty flimsy...
@mcrossley you can see in the third pic that the blank frame easily separates.
You could easily sit your razor mesh in there.

Cheers.

Looking at that screen I think my "external" mount will be easier to clean as it will just wipe off. The frame would make that more difficult.

Hi guys,
Where do you have the air link mounted outside? How protected is the device where you installed from rain?

In the manual it says mount in protected area outside.

Thanks so have ideas what works without issue or damaging device

Looking at the picture of the top cover make me think that with a little careful work with the Dremel & Stanley knife I could cut a slot there so I could slide the frame out.

Considering they give you two frames, you could swap a dirty one out & a clean one in.
Hopefully without sending the grot on the dirty one into the chamber.
