Mounting suggestion for a wooden round pole
« on: January 07, 2010, 09:44:13 AM »
Does anyone have any recommendation for mounting hardware for a Vantage Vue for a round wooden pole (i.e. utility pole size)?

First thing that comes to my mind is to be sure the rain gauge capture area/top opening is higher than the top of the pole to avoid rain shadows.

J-arm from a sat dish.  But whatch for rain/wind shadow issues as noted.

I used a TV antenna mount designed for a gable end.  It stands everything off the pole several inches and is configured to hold a 1 1/4 pipe for the equipment to mount on with "U" bolts.  I had to re-form (bend) the ends a bit to wrap around the pole.  Also adjusted things so I could slide the 20' mast up and down in the mount's clamps for easier positioning.
