It had sprinkled on and off for the late afternoon, and on my way home, the sun set with a brilliant golden orange. Along the bottom of the cloud marking the transition to clear sky, a couple of what appeared to be virga were well displayed. Until I found a place I could pull off the road and by then they were diminishing. Thinking that the rain we had been getting and was reaching the ground, it isn't quite right to call this a virga, since it most likely will hit the ground. Yet precipitation shaft is hardly an accurate description.
Is there another word? Again the beauty in real life far exceeds the feeble attempt to grab a picture of this very cool phenomenon. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
