A view inside the GW1000

I took the screws off my GW1000 to take a closer look at it. As I suspected the barometric sensor is on the PCB and not on the end of the cable. The end of the cable is only for the indoor temperature and humidity sensor. Keep the location of the barometric sensor in mind when calibrating your station. You need to know your total elevation when entering in Absolute pressure. The barometric sensor is the one on the front side (LED and RF WiFi button side) that is a small metal square with a hole in the corner and labeled U3 on the PCB.

Interesting that my particular model does not have the frequency checked in the section marked with all three frequencies 433, 868, 915. Mine is a 915 MHz. Also interesting is that the red wire inside all wound up is the RF antenna. If anyone has poor reception perhaps drilling a small hole and extending this wire straight out might help? I'm making no claim to that...I dunno...but you can test if that is you.

I am liking this GW1000!

It looks almost promising that frequency selection may be by soldered resistors or jumpers, need pics of different frequency units.....

ALSO:

  • Do you by chance know if the data rate for ecowitt.net data from the GW1000 can be set to 1 minute rate, the same as the WH31 update rate?
  • What are the data retention policies at ecowitt.net ?

You can configure Ecowitt.net upload to 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 minutes. I have mine set to 1 minute and it works very nice. But this is only for the online live dashboard. Historical data is stored in 5 minute increments for graphs and data charts. No idea on how far back the history goes. It's a new service and I've only been on it since the beginning of this year.

It looks fairly simple to add a coax connection to a yagi.
Yet another project to consider.

I suspect U5 is the critter that receives the 915/868/433 signal and likely the values of C1 L1 and L2 change with frequency.
I don't see any nearby jumpers that would be set to change frequency. (I'd love to see the markings on U5)
Y3 (26 MHz) may be what determines the frequency. In that case it may be cheaper just to order the GW1000 on the other frequency.

Here's a mystery.
The external black bar "WiFi Configure/Reset button" appears to simultaneously press S1 and S2. Can we confirm that?
And on the back of the unit is S3, which has no external button.
I'm preparing to leave on vacation and I'm adverse to experimentation just before I leave, otherwise S3 would be my object of curiosity this week.
If anyone finds out the function of S3 please let us know here.

S3 is factory rest through pin hole on back of case.

Thanks!  So, the RF frequency is programmed in EEPROM during manufacturing, we can safely say that the frequency cannot be changed in the field, it's much easier to order a new one with the correct frequency.
