Pulled the trigger on the ECOWITT HP3501 system
« on: April 20, 2019, 10:53:07 PM »
Been with out a weather station since October of last year (2018) when I tried out the acurite atlas twice and both times had issues with the lightning sensor. Bought this after hearing some about ecowitt on this forum. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MZ3YV64/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I had been holding out for a station with a lightning detector and am hoping this one eventually have that option. I was wanting the one with the bigger screen but it was unavailable on Amazon and I had points to use there. Asides from the possibility of a lightning sensor I am very interested in how all the sensors are separate on this weather station. Don't know how much info is up on it here but I'll try to post my experience with it when I get it.

Did a quick temporary install of weather station Monday and so far happy with it, only negative is screen is screen is tiny and cluttered, the size of my s7 give or take a little but it is clear. Install was incredibly simple. I plugged in display and then put batteries in each sensor which immediately connected to it. Connecting to weather under ground took a look at the instructions and requires an app but the process was easy once the app was downloaded. Was unsure of if the soil moisture sensor I ordered was going to work but it too easily connected itself. Sorry for the blurry pic but I think it lets you see how everything is crammed on to the screen. Really do like how it is expandable. Will comment more on perceived accuracy later. Thank you for sharing. Post some pictures if you can of your install. Attachment you tried seems to not have worked.

If you aren't in love with the screen realize you can always add the bigger screen later and it will pick up all the sensors at the same time so you can run both displays simultaneously. Then move one of the displays to a different room for multi-location viewing. Only one should upload to each service though (you decide which).

Keep getting this "Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.

Please consult your server administrator for more information." Maybe  I need to try and take a lower quality picture.

As far as the screen goes it would be fine If I could it set it near where I sit but between 2 kids and a toddler it would get destroyed if I set it low. I do like that they keep adding sensors to it. I'll try and get some pics of the install but the anemometer is in a temporary spot and I'm trying to figure out a better spot for the ambient air sensor, its in the shade under thee floor of kids swing set thing but still reads a few degrees higher the other stations around.

This is just at temporary installation for the anemometer until I decide where to put it Thinking of stacking chain link fence post in back yard with bottom pole in about 5 ft of concrete.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Haven't really had time to mess with it but  haven't had any issues with it, seems to be pretty solid. I really like how they made it post to ecowitt now just wish it would also post my soil meter sensor and pm sensor there. Still hoping for a lightning detector.

If you add a GW1000 then it can post to Ecowitt.net all of the sensors under one device, yes including your soil and PM2.5.

It seems to me that HP3501 does not need GW1000 to send data to Ecowitt.net.
This station can read data from one soil moisture and PM sensor and eight additional T / H sensors and send this data to several weather sites.

Got me then. I don't have experience with the HP3501 and just took beamd's word for it not working with soil and PM2.5. Not sure then why beamd says that soil and PM2.5 don't work.....unless they are referring to the fact that the display doesn't show the soil and PM2.5 but it does post the data to Ecowitt.net???? I guess we need some clarification.

Photo attached is my HP3001 from Misol almost like HP3501 from Ecowitt. Data from PM sensors and soil moisture are on the display.

I meant that they don't display to ecowitt.net. They very easily connected to my display but show no history that I can find so only good for live view. I can't complain too much because it never even claimed to send anything to ecowitt.net over my system but I would really like to be able to see the pm2.5 and my soil sensor away from home.......just not enough to pay for it . Does irk me a little that if they do add a lightning sensor it will probably get same treatment so I won't have any records on lightning if I don't upgrade display/sending unit which I was hoping to eventually be able to get out of this system.

Kind of off topic but do either of you know of way to look at weekly/monthly/yearly high/lows on ecowitt.net?

Could you provide a link to your station on Ecowitt.net?
What is your firmware version?
I don't have HP3501, but my HP2551 station on Ecowitt.net has historical records from the soil moisture and PM sensor.
You will see the weekly / monthly / annual maximum / minimum after selecting the appropriate option from the drop-down menu.

Firmware version is V1.5.2(2019/3/2). How can I get you a link? Here is what shows up in the browser https://www.ecowitt.net/home/index

  Well I thought my display had been updating over my phone app but I just learned it wasn't. I just updated my firmware and I now have pm and soil moisture on ecowitt.net. Very happy with my ecowitt station, with these kind of upgrades and ease of use I highly recommend ecowitt over the acurite and ambient weather stations I have had  [tup]

I thought that providing a link to the station on Ecowitt.net is easy.
Unfortunately, this is not the case.
I wonder if anyone knows how easy it is to share leads on your station with others.
Is the station in the attachment yours?
Everything seems to work as it should.
