Title: Website with precipitation total models?
Post by: boss281 on September 10, 2018, 07:22:30 AM
With Hurricane Florence a concern for the southeast coast, I tried looking for websites with accumulated precipitation models.  My Accuweather subscription has access to static models but I can't zoom in (I'm in the already saturated mid-Atlantic), the WunderGround animated map model doesn't appear to show total estimates, just time lapse, and I can never seem to navigate the .gov sites and find what I need.  Anyone?

So you are looking for predicted forecast accumulation.

Weather Underground if you go to your Forecast Page there are some details there:
https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us/md/new-windsor/KMDNEWWI3?cm_ven=pwsdash_cityforecast

If you click on any of the three precipitation links for Today, Tonight or Tomorrow it takes you to more details about the precipitation and even a chart in between these graphics. This is good for the next 24 hours.

The calendar link also has totals for each day for the next couple weeks
https://www.wunderground.com/calendar/us/md/new-windsor/KFDK/date/2018-9?cm_ven=localwx_calendar

You can further click on each future date and see a forecast precipitation total and an average precipitation. If you total those up it looks like you are in for about 2 more inches total for the next week.

Yes, these are working, thank you.  I had come across one that should an animated model showing the gradual accumulation of rainfall, but for the life of me I can't find it now.  I'll post that link if I do...

The NWS WPC loops are:
Day 1-3 Six Hour: https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/qpf/qpfloop.html
Day 4-7 Six Hour: https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/qpf/day47_6hrly.php
Day 1-7 Six Hour: https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/qpf/day47_6hrly.php

I have incorporated them into a Saratoga Template (https://www.gwwilkins.org/wxd1-7preciploop.php), the source of which is here (https://www.gwwilkins.org/wxd1-7preciploop.php?sce=view) or on my Scripts Page (https://www.gwwilkins.org/gwwScripts.php).

This is the best website I've found for detailed models.
