Title: What is your most popular page?
Post by: UpstateWeather.com on September 16, 2018, 08:23:04 AM
I’m curious to know what everyone’s most popular pages are on their site.

I’m moving states which means I need to update my site and essentially relaunch it with a new name, domain, etc. so figured I would work to improve it in the process.

Main index for sure. Has current conditions realtime, immediate forecast and images....distant #2  forecast page.

Same for me. I’ve always had trouble getting people past my index.

I've tried to bundle everything people want on front page, knowing not many go beyond.
I also include radar which is popular with locals. I did have satellite but removed because of uneven amount of images. I'll add satellite again this winter when I add snowfall potential map which is also very popular.

For winter I reduce the size of expandable images in box and go with 8 images, 4 across
or I can add a 3rd row and go with 9 images.

Current look has 2 rows, 3 images per row.

Murry's Detail/Summary pages are the most visited sub-pages we have on our site. http://weather.wildwoodnaturist.com/downloads.php According to our Google Analytics, the http://www.planoweather.com/wxraindetail.php page alone accounts for 12% of pageviews for the year.

90% + to my frontpage.  But I subscribe to KISS.  Vitals on homepage only.  No extra pictures.  No point in wasting bandwidth to items nobody but me is looking at.

1) Over the last 2 months, my top 20 pages drive 90% of all my pageviews.
2) I've categorized these pages into Home Page (51.75%), Radar Pages (21.40%), Forecast Pages (11.76%), Weather Info Pages (4.87%),  and Webcam Pages (0.32%).
3) I have at least another 80 pages or more that account for the remaining 10%.

TOP FIVE:

1. The earthquake page, by far, with 75 hits!
2. Home page:  25 hits
3. Oklahoma fault lines: 21 hits
4. Five day weather forecast: 3 hits
5. Cell phone page:  2 hits

There has to be some significant weather activity going on or about to, such as a severe weather warning,  before the earthquake page is knocked off from being no. 1.  Otherwise, I believe Stillwater people get their weather info needs from other sources,  such as the weather man or beautiful weather woman on TV, or the Internet.

But it's interesting where most of the hits come from for the earthquake page.  So a top 10 list for where from:

1. Oxfordshire, UK (for the earthquake page and for 48.8% of locations where from)
2. Stillwater
3. Oklahoma City
4. Norman, OK
5. Burkesville, KN (Why, I don't know.)
6. Derby, KS, (They have earthquakes there.)
7. Edmond, OK
8. Enid, OK
9. Cushing, OK
10. Broken Arrow, OK

Locations 7, 8, 9, are near hot spots for earthquakes.
