Well updated my firmware. Wind is blowing looks the same to me    Can't tell any difference     Think thy should of told what was wrong with it before the update. Maybe it now shows the same wind speed as the person that live 3 miles down the road so people don't have to put in any offsets..

Is it worth it to update the firmware if you cannot see anything wrong?

I am of the midset-if it isn't broke--don't fix it.

Well to me if it wasn't broken they wouldn't of fixed it.

I only updated this one because I didn't do 1.75a.
And the newer improvements seemed important;
Firmware version 1.82
1. Changed “ALL CLEAR” function so that it does not clear any user-set calibration numbers.
2. Further improved wind speed translation algorithm for increased accuracy.
3. Improved data logging of high wind speed measurements in environments that get poor reception.
4. Fixed a communication problem where the console output an extra “\n\r” if it received binary data containing a 10 (x0A) or a 13 (x0D). Note: This issue only affects third-party software developers.

Firmware version 1.80
1. Improved wind speed translation algorithm for increased accuracy.
2. Improved digital barometer measurements at very high temperatures.

I love this Quote, it is almost the same to say don't change the air filter it ant broke it is only dirty.
Or isn't broke so wait for it to fall apart and pay 100 times the cost as with the air filter you will need to wait for the engine to quit or wait for it be broke and put in a new engine.

Firmware updates are not a FIX IT process 100% of the time.
As with updates for Computer BIOS they improve and ADD new functions to a computer or a device.
Firmware adds for example new DVD types to a DVD player, weather in a computer or not, puns
Firmware can add new CPU types in a computer. They can speeds up a process and even save energy.
They can change the time system to the correct the "Day light savings", we seem to change this and it isn't broke, but we can correct it with a Firmware update/upgrade.

Just a qyuck question. Since different parts of the world have their stations set to different frequencies (eg Australia is 915 to 928 Mhz) do I need an Australia specific firmware or does Davis make so it will suit all models?.

Is it easy to install if you are using the WeatherlinkIP? I don't want to stuff it up and reduce the console to an expensive desk ornament.

Yes, it does. Wireless frequency is more a hardware matter, the firmware doesn't deal with that.

Simply download the "Direct PC Install" version of the firmware and run it. There will be no problem. Just get sure there won't be any network cut between your PC and the logger during the update.

Did the update a little while ago, everything went ok.

The only thing I was wondering about was while I was doing the update I had noticed that I had a gap in my data of 20 mins. I thought when the station is in setup mode, that any data recorded was temporarily stored in the ISS until the connection was reestablished.

Don't forget to reset the time & date of your console (or envoy).

Hi

Just did the update on my brand new Vantage Pro2 Cabled.

Updated from 1.73 to 1.82

I was wondering. If you read about the v1.80 on the webpage it says.:
Firmware version 1.80
1. Improved wind speed translation algorithm for increased accuracy.
2. Improved digital barometer measurements at very high temperatures.

But if you read about the v1.80 in the attacbed pdf it says.:
Version 1.80 (July 14, 2008)- Cabled Version
Corrected Issues:
• Modified wind measurements to accommodate a new version of wind cups.
• Fixed a bug dealing with the digital barometer measurements taken at high
temperatures.

But as far as I know there's only to types of wind cups the small and the large version and this was already supported in the v1.73 - right ?

Best regards.

Hi

OK, then I guess it's the text on the webpage thats correct and I do have a fair chance that my Pro2 shows the correct wind  :-)

Best regards.

I notice that I lost my "Today" readings and they seem to be now set to the time of the update. Hi/lo numbers beginning at that time.

I can't remember if this happened with previous updates. Is that common and how do you restore them, other than waiting for tomorrow?

That happened to me too. Since I did the update at night I had already recorded the high for day and the previous nights low, so losing the high and low was not a problem for me.

I seem to remember thinking, post-update, that I need to remember to do this stuff at "12:01" but couldn't remember if it was the WL or datalogger update.

I wish I could remember those things that I need to remember to remember about remembering... #-o

Did any of you having this problem do a EPROM save :?:  I didn't notice any problems.  Data repopulated immediately.

Mine worked just fine. I also made sure mine was in setup mode when doing the upgrade. I had to reset the clock a couple min. ahead after the upgrade.

Mine was in setup as well, as usual, and using the "Direct from PC" updater.

The only problem is in the "Today high" type tags in the reports.

The data file has a seamless timeline before/after but a 35% reception rate at the time of the update. I did try deleting the records from just prior to the update - no change. I let it rebuild the entire .wlk file as well with no change. All the data files are intact and seem to rebuild properly but it won't report the daily hi/lo at the console, the WL report screens or tags passed.

How is an EPROM save performed with these updates?

Is updating the firmware as simple as putting the cosole to sleep (Done - buttons) and running  the .exe?  The PDF instructions are pretty vague. TIA!

I'm not sure that the console has to be put to sleep to update the firmware.  After all, an Envoy is updated without being put in a sleep mode.  It probably doesn't hurt to do that to the console before beginning.

One thing I would definitely advise is to make sure your PC that is doing the updating does not have a sleep or screen saver timer that might be activated during the firmware upload.  I think activation of a screen saver is what bricked my Envoy once while flashing it.

I'm guessing the firmware upgrade EXE files have a simple built in TFTP program that pushs the upload through and it doesn't handle this process robustly, e.g. it can't recover and restart where it left off if the process is interrupted.  So it would be safer not to try to multi-task on the computer during the flashing process!

Follow the pdf instructions.  This time they included the steps for saving settings and data to EEPROM. I exited VWS before doing the update.  Then click the program and follow the prompts.  When the prog finishes, depress and hold DONE until the display comes back.  You'll have to readjust the console time.  Then restart VWS.

I love line #4.

Check your console or Envoy for the version of firmware currently
installed. For Vantage Pro2 Consoles:
1. Check the firmware version or firmware date of your Vantage Pro 2
console by holding down the DONE key and pressing the UP
  • arrow.

2. Put your console into Setup Mode by pressing and holding DONE and
the DOWN arrow [-].
Entering Setup Mode saves the current time and ensures that no
EEPROM or FLASH writes are in process when the power is removed.
3. Write down the console’s transmitter ID settings (both the ID codes and
the station types), because you may be required to re-enter them after
updating.
4. Follow the instructions provided with your Vantage Pro2 Updater to
update your console.

What exactly does that mean?  Do you remove batteries/power?  You would think someone actually checks the instructions they write.
