I just pulled the trigger on the Ambient WS-2080.  Go UPS!

Did you get the optional large solar shield?

Yes.  After reading all the threads that said one was needed, I would have been chagrined if I didn't get one.  ;)

I downloaded the Cumulus software and now just need to read up on mounting the sensor array.

It will be interesting to see how this compares to the Davis VP2 that I have at work.

I tried it without the shield and in the sun it was way off.
I posted this in the software section so you may not have seen it.

You are going to like the ws 2080.

Here is what I suggest when you get it.  Go to Lowes or a hardware store and buy one of those green-steel fence post for a couple of bucks you drive in the ground.  Assemble your station and attach it to the post.  Now you can move it around the yard till you find a good spot.  Then you can build something better.

Put it where you can see it first so you see it working.

Remember in Cumulus station setup check the FineOffset which is the same as yours just a different logo.  Most of the people on Cumulus Forum are from across the pond and lots of good old Aussies.  Nice people.

Thanks for the tips.  I will try the fence post idea.  I've got lots of those sitting around.

Another good idea is to unhook the console from the computer when you are messing with the rain gauge since very little movement will make the buckets tip and you will be recording rain.  Before you hook it back up to the computer clear the memory(Instructions in manual).

These are things I learned the hard way, ](*,)

I have noticed recently that the memory on my WS-2080 has been filling up. I never noticed before though. When it gets full will it affect the ability to upload data to my website, WU, etc...? Should I clear the memory myself or will it automatically clear when it's full?

Thanks

I would tend to believe it should start overwriting the oldest entries once it's full and keep running as usual.
