Storm brewing off North Carolina coast
« on: May 07, 2007, 08:33:11 PM »
There is a strong storm brewing off the coast of NC. Our local TV weather said hurricane force winds had been reported by offshore buoys.

I captured a pretty good image of the storm from NOAA 12 POES this evening. There is a clearly visible "eye".

The NOAA 12 image is here.

There other images of the storm here.

I was listening to the weather radio yesterday, and they were talking about 70+ knot winds over the Gulf Stream... and I'm thinking to myself, where does a Cat 1 start? :?

Waves of 10-12' forecast here...

Neither NHC nor the Navy seem to be too concerned about it from what I can find.

Because it's not tropical in nature, and the water is still too cold...

Still, it's going to hammer the coastline pretty bad...
