2 x GW1100 with WS80: GW1100/WS90 sensor firmware issue
« on: January 08, 2022, 04:32:29 AM »
if you are running two GW1100 with one WS80 (ultrasonic 6-in-1 array), there is a GW1100 firmware issue aknowledged by Ecowitt which may lead to one of the GW1100 starting reporting bogus readings.
One of our forum members from NL went down this path.

The workaround is to make sure, by the help of the WS View Plus (!) app, to actively disable the WS90 sensor ID entry in th SensorsID section. Don't let it run in "learning" mode.

It's in general good practice to disable actively all sensors that you do not have/don't use with your specific console.
This also helps reducing the sequence problems with multi-channel sensors like WH31 family, WH51, WH55, WN34/35 in cse of reboots.

I now find that having disabled all sensors I do not have on my GW1100 that I do have a WH25 showing up on the battery data I extract, there is no WH25 showing up on the sensor IDs page. I have everything disabled which is not actually available!

I am finding this f/w for the GW1100 very flaky, why on earth would the WH25 show up when it does not exist?

@broadstairs: Well, that is interesting because it shows that a similar error can occur outside the WS80 issue with another device (What is a WH25?). I'll bring that back in my comms with Ecowitt. Indeed the firmware seems to have an issue

Hi!

What is a WH25?
The WH25 is probably a WH32B T/H/P sensor for the HP2551C/HP3501 or WH26x0.

Stuart, do you own such a device?

No I do not have any of those only a GW1100 which shows this battery data:-

Code: [Select]
Sensor WH80 Sensor ID 000b0029 Battery Status 2.94 Volts Signal Status 04
Sensor WH40 Sensor ID 0000c4a6 Battery Status 1.6 Volts Signal Status 04
Sensor WH25 offline
Sensor WH31 CH1 Sensor ID 0000009e Battery Status Normal Signal Status 04
Sensor WH31 CH2 Sensor ID 000000d9 Battery Status Normal Signal Status 04
Sensor WH41 CH1 Sensor ID 000000a8 Battery Status 3 Signal Status 04
Sensor WH57 Sensor ID 0000f73e Battery Status 5 Signal Status 04

and a GW1000 which does not show the WH25, both are on the latest f/w.

Yes it is, I have a wh2650 with this T/H/P sensor and it reports as wh25batt ( I think simply for compatibility with older versions )

Only a note: also the ws65 reports its rf data with the '24' type code ( as if it where a wh24 ), but sensors have has different conversion factors ( think for compatibility too )

@broadstairs: switch that WH25 off in WSview plus anyway!
(I had to do it in two steps as well as I had to disable a complete station (see screenshot) which I did not have but suddenly became active. Also the WH32 suddenly remained enabled and could only be disabled after disabling the aforementioned station).

The point is it ONLY shows in battery data, it is NOT listed in sensor IDs. As I said I have all non-existent sensors disabled but as this does not show I cannot disable it!

Are you using the gw1100 api to retrieve these battery data ( if so could you share the program you use )?
Did you power cycle the gw1100 ( maybe the variable was created and not deleted after you removed the sensor )?
Otherwise it could be a 'youth' bug of the gw1100 ( as you could already have imagined ).

I had not power cycled it since disabling all unused sensors but I have now and it still shows. I am accessing the battery data using a PHP program which issues the calls to the GW1100 as for example Weather Display and Cumulus do it, however it is not fit for purpose to make it public at present. It issues the x"ffff3c033f" command to the GW1n00 and retrieves the messages from the device about all possible enabled devices battery status. Each device enabled shows an ID and if offline shows x'ffffffff' as the ID.

I must stress again at no point can I disable the WH25 it does NOT show up in the sensors id display of either WSview + or the GW1100 web page, so I cannot disable it!

A little off-topic but after reading all the threads about ghost/phantom sensors, I decided to check my system:

1 x GW1000 and 1 X GW1100.

I can confirm that on both consoles (latest firmware) show a WH31 channel #3 (has a registration number)..problem is I don't have a WH31.

I can also confirm that disabling the GW1100 sensor in Wsview does not work...it still showed as "enabled" in the browser UI.

Thanks Gyvate..will be turning off a lot of channels..

Weird.  I had a CH3 Soil Moisture registered on the GW1100 (no signal though, just an ID).  I don't have a 3rd device.  I just hit Re-Register and it went away.

More off topic as I don't have a ws80 or ws90. After reading the last few postings I thought I would check my gw1100 sensors.

Oddly enough I had one of my soil sensors also show up on the temp soil with the same senor id. However this did not show up in any data. Did a re-register of that sensor id location and it disappeared.
