Here's an animated gif file of ISON's approach and departure from the Sun. Pretty amazing...

Those pictures show it obviously surviving the 'close encounter' but NASA has stated that it did not survive?

I think the official NASA position right now is one of "wait and see". Some are saying that what is being shown may actually be a dust cloud of the remnants and without any nucleus. It will take at least several more days for the scientists to collect enough information so a definite conclusion can be reached. According some of the articles written about comet ISON, it has produced numerous surprises ever since being discovered on Sept 21, 2012. It looks like they are still getting surprises.

It will be fun to watch and hopefully, we'll be able to see it visually over the next few weeks or months.

Let's hope we may still be able to see it in the coming days and weeks. However, I read an article last night saying the brightness of ISON was beginning to drop and was, at that time, at a magnitude 5 level which is well below what is visible to the naked eye.

Stupid comet Ison dying off.  It was cloudy the week before Perihelion and then the darn thing died.  I'm pretty disappointed.

Well, the Sun did to Ison what Jupitor did Shoemaker-Levy -- tore it apart -- only the Sun did a more thorough job of the process.
