« on: March 06, 2011, 09:05:35 AM »
All I want to do is connect my Vantage Vue to my computer and see the data on the screen... nothing more.

I don't need to send data on the internet....  I still have to pay $150 up???

No, you can pay $112 if you want.

But yes, you need a Weatherlink package of some sort.

What data do you want to see on the computer screen, that you can't see on the Vue console?  That is, why isn't just looking at the console OK?

It not just a cord it a data logger so since you posted to the WeatherLink board you must of want to use the WeatherLink software that is what most people think of that buy the cord think as free software. The data logger stores weather data so when you have to reboot your computer there would be no gaps in what is in the data bases that most of the Weather software uses that displays that data on the screen.
One would of thought that when thinking about a weather station that that part would of been figured into the hardware that is needed to be purchased as part of the package, and if the total cost of the data logger cord put the project over budget then other option should of been look at.

I'm not into electronics... I'd have to buy one ready to go, unless it is really simple to do.

Where's the $112 deal...?

There are likely other places that will match this, but here is Ambient's quote.  They don't use the post office to ship though, so it will cost you something like $12 to mail an 8-ounce package or thereabouts.

I agree .
For what you pay for the Davis ,the data logger   should come with the unit !!!!! A 10 dollar part ,that they charge  120 dollars for .
This is a Davis down fall !!!!
I do own a davis , an yes I bought that weather link for the cord . I do not use the software .

OK, so you'll need some way to connect the computer to the console, and some software.  What software do you plan to use?

It is NOT simply a cord. It is a datalogger that interfaces to your console.  ](*,)

Yes . You are right . Still , the cost for a complete Davis system the cord ( datalogger) should be included in the package . Not a separate part . This is a high dollar systems.
This is the most value part . Without it , it's high dollar worthless weather station .
I did know what I was getting into .
This is a upgrade system.  My older system lacross nothing but problems.
For 3 years now ,no problems . Best system I ever had .
I still think the datalogger should be included . Not a add on .

Which datalogger do you believe should be included?

Also, note that the originator of this thread, Gulfcoast, doesn't want a logger - just a cable connecting the console to the computer.  Would that suffice?

So what your saying if Davis would of just add the $165.00 data logger to the $1195.00 VP2P making the price $1360 for both you be alright with that even if you didn't need the Data logger....
