"Is there any Quality difference between the vantage vue and the pro2 or just the fact that you can separate the censors?" I believe the Vue and the VP2 have the same sensors and the same specifications and Accuracy. HOWEVER!
"is the pro 2 worth the extra money?" I think so. To me, mounting the ISS at the proper, maintainable height, ( 5'), and the anemometer higher is important.
I am so glad that when I got my VP2 the Vue was not available. I would probably have purchased it to save a few bucks and been unhappy. If I was starting over today, with my vast knowledge
, I would buy the VP2 only, mount it on a fence post and start looking. You will need a datalogger and a couple are available on this forum. I have purchased 3 Davis Weatherlink units from ebay ( I have 1 shrink wrapped left ) for $75 -$85. After the Datalogger, I would get Cumulus software (donationware) and start accumulating data.
Now you can start deciding on a permanent location for your equipment. My local mounting probably cost around $100. You can do it for less, if you remote mount anemometer it will be more. The thing is, you don't have to do it all at once.
